Thank you, Leo and others. I made it through yesterday. Dealing with some stress/depression, but the Lord will see me through.

Also, I totally agree with Ambrose's statement about the Jesus Prayer

    Welcome Ambrose!

I think Mary is gonna end up being crucial to my recovery. My mom failed me, so Mary has been picking up the pieces and putting me back together u might say.

Try this prayer when temptations come at u:

"Oh Precious Blood of Jesus, cover and protect me from the wickedness and snares of the devil. Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Saint Maria Goretti help me."

When I pray this prayer, I picture Jesus hanging on the cross and His blood is dripping all over me. Every time I do this, temptations vanish. It has never failed me, not once. I fall when I fail to do this. Sometimes I get lazy and don't pray it or wanna act out instead of praying. That is when I fall.

If u wanna see if it's the devil tempting you, the next time ur tempted call on the Precious Blood of Jesus, and see if the devil flees. There is no greater thing that will make the devil run away like a scared rabbit, than the Precious Blood of Jesus. Have faith brothers and sisters.

    Brother Leo

Yeah it's sweet that he's Catholic. I've never met him and I don't know if he's practicing, but he definitely lets some Christian philosophy and a focus on love seep into his work.

You'll be okay. One relapse is not the end of the world. After a relapse, I like to set my counter goal for just three days. That way, the goal seems much more manageable. Beware the chaser effect!

The tendency to relapse several times in a row due to high libido and high negative feelings. You think, "I already relapsed, so I might as well do it again." Don't trust your mind for a while.

    Hi guys,

I haven't had the time to read through all the links and watch all the videos in this forum but there seems to be a lot of really good stuff here.

I'm Catholic and finally trying to make a strong effort to quit for good. I love my faith and PMO'ing is honestly the biggest hurdle to it because I can't deal with the cognitive dissonance it creates.

It's funny the last few posts are about the "chaser effect" because that has also been a huge problem of mine but I never knew what it was called, especially during lent when I tried to give it up for the whole duration but after I caved once, I didn't have the motivation to remain strong.

I'd love to hear advice you guys have and some best practices for kicking the habit. My main struggles mostly come in the morning when I wake up. I find PMO'ing is sometimes the only way I can gain energy and get out of bed. Ideally I'd get right up and pray to start my day, but I almost fall into a trance sometimes and block out everything but looking at my phone. I need to do a better job of habituating prayer into my life.

It really pains me that I can't seem to break free once and for all, because I know I'd be a much happier person and much more able to focus on alleviating my other sins if I could finally stop beating off.

Anyways, didn't want to go crazy with a first post but hopefully I can become an active and helpful member of this forum.

    Peace

@nonhedonist , your signature says it's been 250 days since your last PMO, but you relapsed over Lent? Anyway welcome! You can check out my post on the first page of the thread about sources. I'm starting to collect a lot of good stuff. If you have any ideas, mention them, and I will add them to the post if they are relevant to sexual addiction .

  11. Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum... and I'm not Catholic or Orthodox, but rest assured, I will be praying for all of you, as well as everyone else here on this journey towards the unadulterated love that God intended us to have. Jesus said, "Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in Heaven. For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." Well guess what, guys! There's more than two of us here, and we are agreeing in asking The Father to set us free, and to show us the way to righteousness... so it's going to be done by Him! The prayers of a righteous man accomplishes much! Therefore, let us look at each day without PMO as a day closer to The Father! Because as we learn to walk with The Father, we will become righteous! The steps of a righteous man are ordered of God! :) Therefore, if it serves as inspiration, the farther you go in your journey, the more powerful your prayers will become!

That's just a little piece of encouragement. I could go on and on, but I'll leave you with that for now. Shalom, y'all!

    Welcome nonhedonist, Denton and Whostolemysock!

I think we can all relate to PMO keeping us down and separating us from God. That's what sin does, it separates us from Him. He still loves us but he demands our obedience. When we sin, we are separated. It's a hard truth to accept. Our separation is a foretaste of hell in my opionion. Thats what hell is, ultimate separation from God. No more graces and no more forgiveness, for starters. Another hard truth to accept. Oh, to kick this addiction's butt once and forever, can u imagine the joy! Easier said than done.

Once, a good priest told me that all addictions are a result of our longing for God. If we can replace our addiction with things God has given us such as the Sacraments, prayer, observing and partaking in God given beauty around us such mountains, beaches, meadows, gardens, developing wholesome relationships with good caring people, and reaching out to those in need for instance, our longing and emptiness will be easier to bear. If we cultivate a lifestyle such as seeing God in everything and enjoying and utilizing the things He has given us with a thankful heart, we can replace our former life of addiction and move closer to God and enjoy a fulfilling life. This, along with breaking away from our bad habits such as all trigggers, bad relationships, bad music, TV, surfing the internet carelessly, social media, or whatever draws one away from God. Anything drawing you away from God must be eliminated to maintain freedom from the addiction. If you succeed at 180 days of no PMO but keep feeding your life with things taking you away from God, your life will still be unfulfilled and you probably will fall back into the addiction. You fell into it once why wouldn't you fall into it again. If the priest is right, we will never be completely fulfilled on earth. If God is present, really present in our lives, OH how easy would this be to overcome? How many times have we received the Eucharist in an unworthy state? How often do we go to Confession? How often to we go to Eucharistic Adoration, or daily Mass? These things are a gift we must utilize in order to bring God in. I am very very guilty of all and as u can see my addiction remains. Maybe we should concentrate our efforts on the positive things such as these and see what happens to our addiction while eliminating our bad habits/relationships. I think creating and sustaining a new life pattern toward good positive things that are not offensive to God, that lead us toward him, is crucial in beating this addiction and keeping it away.

    Step 1:

Inventory yourself. List the bad habits or things in your life that are taking u away from God. Be brutal with yourself here. Your soul and life is at stake as well as those you affect. Ask yourself, is this (insert habit/thing/relationship...not just porn, that's obvious but TV, channel surfing, idleness, gossiping, Web surfing, video gaming etc) getting me closer or creating distance to God. The goal is to eliminate the bad and replace with the good.

    Step 2.

Eliminate the bad in your life as far as u can. Work towards getting rid of those bad things ASAP. Start crossing them off ur list as u go.

    Step 3.

Make a list of daily good habits or things that bring u closer to God. Cultivate these things and do them everyday.

I have known to do this for several years but still have not sat down and actually done them. As u can see my addiction remains. If u are too lazy to get of ur butt and try and do the work, you are just prolonging the addiction as I have. So, make a plan for yourself AND DO IT!!!

I will continue this post when I make my own plan and post it...

God bless you all, thanks for reading,

    Brother Leo

Very good advice @Leo33 . I have an excel sheet on my computer where I list my daily goals. I'll upload it here.

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zGBhYZkyUoMjrYzemgd_N3Dy2Vj4M8qwRPV7lyJqgr0/edit?usp=sharing

If you want to use this sheet yourself, just download it as an excel document or copy and paste into excel. Please do not edit the sheet while it's still on my google docs.

    RULES:

Feel free to download the document and use it yourself if you like. You can save a "basic" version on your computer, and then change the month and the goals to get the version you like.

I give myself one point if I do the desired behavior, two points if I do it exceptionally well or when it was exceptionally difficult, zero points if I don't do the behavior but I have a good excuse, and negative one points if I don't do the behavior and should have. If I fail at the behavior multiple times in the day, I put -2 points.

For me, I highlight the day total in green if I reach 24+ points, yellow for 20-23 points, and red from less than 20 points. You can do it however you like.

hello everyone. Christ has resurrected!:) Call me Nathaniel. I am deeply troubled here. For four straight days I have PMO'd and now I scared that it will continue :(. I have tried things like taking a walk, reading books (class textbook, the bible), volunteering, or anything that will keep me preoccupied. I also told my family (I THANK THE LORD FOR GIVING ME COURAGE). And they put the filter in the computer. Now I feel less confident to talk with people and restarting having a lazy lifestyle. Today a want to make plan to counterattack it. I will appreciate any advice that is offered to me. And I pray that everyone that's suffering from PMO will overcome this.
