Can a slip-up of just viewing P be called a Relapse?

I'm almost at day 9 and I've been struggling with nofap for the last 9 months now. I've had several relapses and my longest streak has been 21 days. I really want to do this but as most of us know, it's HARD. Now I have a very important question which will really help me on this difficult journey and I would really appreciate some advice.

I just browsed a couple of hours worth or 'P' but I did not MO. I know that this isn't good and that I shouldn't have done it because I just feel like the dopamine effect would have kicked in. However, does this mean that I need to reset my counter and start all over again? The reason I ask this and why its extremely important for me at this stage is because this has happened to me in the past and in my mind I decided I've messed up my streak so I should just go ahead a MO and start over again. This time I REALLY don't want to. I want to soldier on and continue to try and beat my 21 days.

Everyone has different ideas about what a relapse is and my question is, do I reset my counter and start all over again? Did I just fail? This was the only time that I saw P due to a trigger and I'm going to strive not to do that again but still, I want to be honest with myself. So I ask humbly, should I be resetting that counter? Or is this a minor setback and I can move on, learn from this and continue with my streak?

    Thanks

In my opinion, this is a reset. If you had a moment of weakness, watched P for a minute or two then came to your senses quickly, then I would say keep up your streak. However, you browsed a couple of hours worth. That means the image of P is still fresh in your mind and your brain will be bathing in dopamine. Personally, I would have just MO'd to kill off any lasting dopamine and started fresh again.. It's tempting to say 'this is just a little slip, must carry on' etc, But you essentially had a P binge. - PS, How did you watch hours of P and NOT M? Haha!
    - - A lot of us have been in this situation, and it sucks. But I think we all need to give 100% or nothing at all. I would reset mate!
Good luck on your NoFap journey! C.

Using porn has used the pathways in the brain that you are trying to get rid of. but that doesn't mean all is lost, the pathways are still weaker than when you first stopped using porn the first time. Yes you have relapsed and your counter is reset but your mind is still stronger now than if you decide to give in again.

Basically what your brain is trying to do is give you permission to start looking at porn,"oh the counters reset so fap away" because it so wants its dopamine but the pathways are still weak due to the previous 9 days so just start the counter again but know that your still in a better place

  4. I did not use a counter for the first year of my reboot. Why not? Because I was not "counting"; I was quitting. I only have it on now so newbies know it can be done. You need to turn off your counter and start quitting. There is only one, known, confirmed, way to overcome dopamine addiction. Hard mode for at least 90 days. aka, the hard 90. No porn, no PMO, no MO, no O, no sex, no porn substitutes, no vanilla porn. You have to shut it down all the way. How big a sacrifice is that really? I mean, come on, not looking at porn for three months. Not like you are giving up something of value. It is worthless, it has no value to you, so giving it up costs you....nothing. The thing about dopamine addiction is, porn is just the button we push to get a dopamine high. We do not have to reach O to get it; just watching porn gives us that high. Ask yourself: Why, what is the ONLY reason I watch porn? Why isn't other things half as interesting? The only, ONLY, reason you watch porn is to get a dopamine high. Only reason. If doing laundry gave you a dopamine high, you would never have dirty clothes. So, is it a relapse? Yes. Should you reset? No, turn off your counter and quit. The counters are sort of fun for some, but if you are serious about beating this problem, the counter is a distraction. I, honestly, don't look at mine anymore. It is irrelevant. I don't count anymore how many days I have not been a slave. I am too busy being free to bother with it.

Totally agree, though im only 8 days in, however im finding this giving up lark very similar to when i gave up smoking, same cravings, same thoughts, same excuses, same mind games, all in the name of the dopamine.
The mind games your brain is playing is the same as with people on diets, because they ate a biscuit, the mind allows them to eat a whole cake, because an alcoholic drinks half a bottle he lets himself drink half the bar.
Just because you got hard and played a bit doesn't mean you give in . It just means nothing, you are still giving up, still the same rules No fapping and no porn.

I agree that counters may mean different things to different guys. For me, it's made a big difference - but not the counter alone, of course. But, the counter does add a layer of accountability for me - like a weigh-in at a weight watcher's meeting. Just not wanting my counter to reset has sometimes gotten me over a withdrawal into relapse - terrific! I never had this before. A small reward, perhaps, but a reward is a reward is a reward. Different folks find different things rewarding. Since a counter serves as a type of reward for me, serving as a "positive reinforcement" in my recovery (as I enjoy a fresh morning seeing one more day added to it - I set my counter to change over midnight), then I see it as a good tool. That's really the point - it's a tool. If not a useful tool for some, put it back in the toolbox and pick out another. If useful, use it most effectively. But, one size does not fit all - I wouldn't discourage what may benefit some in a powerful way. Sometimes I am amazed that the "virtual reality" of a counter is actually assisting me in achieving real virtue.
