So there I was, minding my own business when I had a whatsapp notification...

New message from an ex from several years back who I rarely speak to! Opened the message and there's a porn photo attached that she thought I'd appreciate!!

Then she asked for me to forward some dirty photos I took of her back in 2006-ish as she hasn't seen them. I'm kinda ignoring it with the hope she'll forget again, as I really don't want to open that folder - not for a while at least!

How do other people deal with those random moments when unexpected filth arrives through technology?

cut yourself off from technology in a rational way. My phone for example can't get photos at all. And it is wonderful IMO.

I work with technology, it's totally impractical to do that.

I could block offending contacts, but that would mean a lot of sifting - probably best to cultivate a healthy detachment.

I guess the thing is, I'm not going to spend the rest of my life fearfully avoiding triggering images ... if I did that I'd never go out again!

Early days though so I'm bound to be sensitive.

I'd suggest being straight up with her and say you're done with that stuff. If she stops, great. If she continues, block the messager. Being a big reddit person I definatly have to deal with the temptaion of NSFW tags on the front page, but if its really bad I usually just go find something else to do. For example right now i'm reading this textbook on conservation biology and getting into that seems to always get my thoughts out of that stuff.

Treason, why not delete those photos you have of her, and then respond to her that you deleted them awhile ago. You really have no use for those photos anymore, and while ago is accurate enough.

I get these a lot. I'm in this chat group that tend to send dirty pics for shits and giggles. Avoiding this by deleting the chat program or whatever is not the solution. In my opinion, you sshould simply try your best to ignore. When I do get these random dirty pics, I will admit that I sometimes take a good 5 second look at them, but I do not end up relapsing. It is a matter of willpower. Consider them a "small treat" (I do because I'm single and a virgin lol) and move on without relapsing and resist the temptation of looking at the picture again (you can try deleting). It doesn't count as looking at porn in my opinion because it's just one picture (not high speed) and is also accidental
