Has anxiety / depression always been around (just not talked about as much) or is it a relatively new (more common) thing in recent years among people?

What are the main things causing it? Social media? Technology? Porn? Media? Current events?

It seems like every child / teenager / young adult has it these days. I'm not sure if most of them actually has a bad case of it or it's just something to blame for how their life turned out.

It seems easy for people to use such terms so freely about themselves these days.

Society is much more distant due to large cities, social media, and texting. Back in ancient medieval times, you were likely to grow up in a small rural town, knew everyone, and went to the pub with local town folk. You were likely to marry a girl you grew up with. They required all forms of physical communication.

Now a days, people are increasingly having mental illness due to constant masturbation and seeking lifes hedonistic pleasures only. We are increasingly reaching towards a life that provides simulation of all pleasures (IE pornography, video gaming, movies etc.) rather than long-term commitments towards goals that provides a rewarding, life-long experiences.

I definitely became way happier when I stopped using social media / tv / internet / video games so much, started interacting with people in person more frequently, being part of a community, and working towards challenging goals.

Overthinking / information overload is definitely part of the problem. Learning to live in the moment and stop ruminating my mind has helped for sure.

There is growing evidence that it is antibiotics and processes food. (I am not totally trashing antibiotics. They save lives). There are trillions of good bacteria in our bodies that do all kinds of functions for it. 1000s of different species. There are 20000 human genes. The 1000s of microbes have 2 to 20 million genes. Most of our seratonin is made in our guts by these bacteria. Anti biotics kill the bad bugs that are making us sick. They also kill good bugs that are helping us. I have been eating food with probiotic (food with good bacteria) and prebiotics(food for them) for the last month and I am totally changing. Anxiety is going away. I feel more calm and confident. Research the gut brain axis. The gut microbes and the brain are closely attached.

I just figured this out the other day. When I was 11 I had to take penacillin. It made me horribly sick. I just made the connection after seeing how much better I feel with probiotics. I totally changed around that same time. I started becoming very anxious. Terrified of people. My whole life since then I have been struggling and felt like something was missing. It feels like what was missing is coming back.

I am not here to trash anti biotics. They have saved many lives. I would still take them to save my life. I would just be sure to eat lots of probiotics.

Sure there are modern-day contributors, but another factor I believe is that people are simply more aware of the reality of such conditions, so we hear more about them. What I mean is that less people hide these illnesses from the world.
