The fella in the video I posted above had pretty much a "baby face," and yet after minox had some impressive results. He had the genetics, but those genes were not, for whatever reason, being expressed.

The minoxidil basically can help to coax the beard area to say, "Oh, yeah...I can grow hair! I totally forgot about that!" Youtubers who grew out their beards and got off minox have posted that they still retained their facial hair, unlike scalp hair in the "male pattern baldness" area which tends to fall out after not using it.

  2. Its been starting to come through more fully since around 28 which is when I decided I could start to do the 5-oclock shadowesque look. I did have an ok soul patch(under the chin) I sported at 25ish. Prior to that didnt mess with the non clean shave since is was so inconsistent.

I say keep it less than a centimeter if your patchy. Trim to about a 1/3 of a cm (1/8 in)to stay classy and allow you to see whats coming in throughout the month.

Hmmm, still heard a few bad things though. Definitely not something I'd consider until my 30s.

Well, it's an option. Heart problems are usually not an issue for young men although it may take some getting used to.

I guess I'm just trying to say that genetics are only part of the story.

Patchy is an OVER STATEMENT. I'd upload an image but it's too embarrassing lol. Imagine about 40 black hairs around the chin, 20 in the soul patch area and about 60 on the tache.

So from what you've said, if I get anything, it'll be in 6 or 7 years D:

Oh well, better than nothing I guess. Thanks dude.

Increased heart rate and chest pains wouldn't mix well with someone who has had a history of panic attacks too, thanks for mentioning it though. It's something I've heard about but not thought about seriously due to years of development still left to occur and the health risks.

  7. Could be sooner, later or never. Thats why i said dont try to grow it out past half a cm and be patient.

Yeah, makes sense. Give yourself a chance to grow. People always say "shave more, it'll grow better" but I found that not shaving for long periods really helped more.
    You're right.

  9. Yea shaving won't help growth...it can be detrimental as it can pull up or damage folicles delaying any progress. Thats why I trim it takes care of split ends that would develope and slow growth cuts far enough down the hair that its likely not going to damage the root and also keeps one from looking dirty with patches of some long spread out hairs.

I've gone from looking like a 14 year old to a 16 year old in the space of almost 8 years. Patience only goes so far man lol

I'll trim from now on. Can't risk a single hair being damaged because I'm lacking terribly in numbers lol

I'm 33 and still very unsatisfied with my beard. Hairs are so thin, sparse and patchy.

Look at your family members. Can they grow beards/mustaches? If they can then you should have the genes. If you have the genes then you need to look at yourself and see what could be preventing it from growing. How many glasses of water do you drink? How much sleep do you get? There's a lot of factors that go into this. Quitting porn is definitely going to help.

  14. I was looking in some of my old photos for something else, when I came across the photos of me with a facial hair. There was some growth under my lip and on my chin, but nowhere else, and, in a shadow you can't even see it. Granted, I've auburn hair (greying now), and a pale complexion that all too often turns to pink, but this had been after months of growth. I recall going to a party for my late grandmother and feeling that nothing was 'happening' with it, so I should just get rid of it.

I'll tell you this though; I probably look better at 40 than I do at 25, although both versions need to lose a bit of weight.

Saw my dad grow a beard once and laughed, probably because he's always been clean shaven and it was grey/white. Not to mention it was long (ish) but I remember it being quite thin so you could still see his face.
His dad never grew one as far as I'm aware anyway.
Then my great grandfather I've only seen one picture of. He had what I'd call a gentleman's tache. His hair was dark and looked like he could have been from French/Italian descent.

Unfortunately on my mum's side we don't know who her father was and we only have seen a couple of photos of her mum, let alone any of my mum's grandparents.
How's quitting masturbating going to stop my facial hair development?

I never said it would stop you from growing facial hair. I said it would help grow facial hair. Speaking from my own experience it helped my testosterone get back to healthy levels. Your body can also use nutrients that you would have used for masturbation for other things.

Dude. I have dark hair above my lip and if I grew it out I would like a Mexican 15 year old haha. And sparse hairs on my chin. Not around my chin, just ON my chin. You could probably count them individually. Then about 15 hairs in the soul patch area. Growing it all out even to 2cm looks ridiculous lol

Wish I could post a picture but I'd rather keep full anonymity on this site.

Already discussed before in this thread. I'm against using them as they come with horrible side effects from heart pain to balding on the scalp lol
Not to mention the fact I've still got decades left in facial hair development. It kind of peaks around 40, even if you've got a decent amount in your early twenties.
