    Victory!

Back in the beginning of the year I found out about the NoFap community and thought it was a great idea but I bookmarked the forum and went about my usual PMO life. Then I had a dream about a girl, noting sexual but it got me thinking...if I ever want to love someone, I have to stop loving myself first. I knew that I had to kick the habit right then. So I hit up the forum and started finding out about Your Brain On Porn and watched some videos and it was an epiphany moment for me. I had no idea how this addiction was effecting my brain and it scarred the crap out of me.

So I started thinking about my approach. Of course I had tried to quit PMO other times through various Christian forums but nothing really worked. I had tried the "willpower" approach which collapsed around week 2(my longest previous streak). I saw a thread where someone was trying to find a desktop counter for their computer so that they could count their streak without it always being attached to their signature. I thought this was a great idea to have something that's right there when you are on the computer reminding you of your progress. So I took it a bit further...what if it was literally on my desk, I could even build something out of...Legos. I love Legos and still collect them so why not. It could be a visual reminder of what I'm literally building towards. Below is my completed mosaic.

This is a method that I highly recommend everyone at least trying. Maybe you don't use Legos but you use coins in a jar or something...anything to help you track your progress that will have a stronger consequence if you relapse than simply a number on a screen that changes.

Fast forward 100 days and here I am. What is life like with a rebooted mind? The biggest changes I've noticed are in my confidence, my view of women and lack of guilt. I use to feel really guilty at church in particular. Being around everyone who thinks I'm a nice Christian guy not knowing that I'm a porn addict and undressing women with my eyes in the middle of church. But now, that guilt is gone. It's like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I also notice a boost in my confidence. More specifically my confidence in confrontation. Lastly, my view of women has greatly changed. While I don't find myself undressing women with my eyes, I do still have a tendency to somewhat objectify them which I'm working on still. However, I will say that the way I see women is drastically changed for the better.

I can take no credit for getting myself to this point. Apart from Christ I can do nothing. All praise goes to him alone! I am so grateful to Christ for getting me this far. The way I see it, this is only the beginning of the rest of my life without PMO.

Nice one! Love the fact that you did build your own success with lego, piece by piece, day by day. I think I will take your adwice and start putting coins in a jar today:)

I think the key to breaking this habit is to keep trying, and I think it is great when people can apply their creativity in doing so. Great example for the rest of us man.

I agree. Trying again is key, but it's also important to not try the same thing. You can't just repeat the same stuff that caused you to fail, you have to always be trying new ways or new techniques or learning from your mistakes if you're really serious about quitting PMO.

Congratulations!! What are your plans now? Do you plan to stay at NOFAP? Are you going to maintain your counter? My plan is to keep my marbles until the reboot. Then perhaps I'll even remove the PMO counter, because my commitment is to NEVER masturbate again, NO MATTER WHAT happens in my life (good or bad).

I don't believe in "streaks" (I'm talking about the "streak mindset" here, not your example at the beginning). Once you get serious about this, the options are to quit or not to quit. I know that quitting for good is a process, but you have to be completely sure of what you're doing. Otherwise, there's always going to be an excuse to return to PMO/MO: sad, angry, lonely, hungry, happy...

I speak from experience: in 2006 I was clean for 4 months, then a "crisis"... and back again to the old habits. But I knew nothing about the addiction at the time. Besides, NOFAP began its existence in June 20th, 2011. I had no access to broadband, no youtube, no community like this whatsoever, no ebooks...
We could use a familiar quote here:
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way".

Today we live in the age of images, speed and constant temptations, but we also live in the age of information, of easy access to knowledge. It's up to us to use the tools to use these tools for "good" or for "evil".

What I like so much about NOFAP is that its main objective is to "clean you up" and to return you in good shape to the outer, real world. I think that if you [an abstract "you", not you LegoT] stay here forever and if you don't make any changes in the way that you're living, you're missing the point. It would be like staying forever at a coffee shop with your friends.

Congratulations again and God bless you, dear brother.

    Galaxim.

I'll still be around to check in occasionally. I'd like to keep my counter going until I reach 200 days. I agree that it's not about the streaks. The streak mindset is about how long you can last

I also have some accountability partners that I am working with that I'll be keeping in touch with via IM here on the forums.

I totally agree. You can get stuck here and never really move forward. I feel like I've made a big step in moving forward by making a lot of changes in my life. Getting a streak of 100 days is a big achievement but reaching it is by no means a reason to go back to PMO. I don't ever want to return to PMO. I want freedom!

We definitely live in a world of high speed temptation and instant gratification. The goal isn't to simply avoid anything sexual, but to be able to control your own reaction.
