Hey there, I'm Quinn.
I'm 46 years old. I have been a sex addict since age 10. I started using hardcore pornography when I was 13. By the time I was 30, I started getting massages with happy endings. I was doing this once or twice per year at first but eventually it became a two times per week problem. Eventually I started having sex with prostitutes.
I got help when I was 38. I started therapy and joined a 12-step group. I've had a rocky recovery. I've grown and changed immensely but I've never been able to stay clean for very long.
I love "the rooms" and am grateful for everything they have given me. But I needed more. I started a weekly meeting of friends in recovery where we could actually cross-talk out our problems. Big help! I joined nofap. Big big help!
A few things about me:
- I try to be doctrine-free. You will not hear me say that this way or that way is the only way that works. I believe it is the person who works it that makes it work, whatever it is. I avoid religious wars of any sort like 12-step vs. SMART vs. nofap vs. higher power vs. brain science. It's all the same thing to me. Whatever works for you works. Whatever works for me works.
- I don't believe in the powerlessness vs. power argument. All powerlessness in the 12 step context means is that I need help and that I cannot solve my problem in isolation.
- I am very spiritual. I very much believe in god and "oneness". I am not a Christian though I was raised one. But I believe my recovery is a spiritual journey. I don't believe it has to be this way for anyone else.
- I try to keep a very open mind.
- I try to refrain from giving advice
- I have a lot of 12-step experience so I tend to talk that talk. That does not mean I specifically endorsing that approach.
- I try to be teachableInteract
