How can he be so forgiving?

For Fapstronauts of the Catholic Christian Faith

  1. Dear R C Fapstronauts,

I have sinned yesterday and today. After making my first steps on the road of rebooting, I had a throw back. Now, I've prayed and confessed today. I feel the father has forgiven me. But I try to figure out, how that is even possible. After so many mistakes, breaches and failure, how is it even possible that God is still forgiving? Doesn't he get tired of us sinners at some point? I feel he doesn't, which is amazing. What do you think?

All the best and God bless you all!

I'm sorry for the late answer, I relapsed on Thursday and I have no brave to visit this site...

So, in my opinion God is living without time, so He had to forgive once. We trapped in our material body, therefore we feel how time passes, and we understand space too.
I imagine this situation like this picture. The earth is you in the middle and you means not only the present you, but you in your past and you in your future. He can see the whole you, what you are, what was you and what's going to be you. You are constantly change and it means you'll fall time to time, but He is the same (Hebrew 13,8).

In the example you are in the middle with your time and space problem, but God is in the eternity. Eternity rules time and space. Because of that he needed to redeem you only once.
And here comes the tricky part. God forget all of my sins once and it's enough, but I have to say sorry over and over, because I'm in time. I have to aknowledge Him and His power to live in purity again and again.

I hope my story is clear, if it's not, please feel free to ask! I'll try to answer.

It's a good question. Of course God isn't limited like us. So whenever we conceive of God we can't think of Him as being exactly like us. He doesn't tire of anything. He doesn't reach the end of His rope with us. He is infinite in justice and in mercy.

Maybe the interesting thing is why does God forgive at all? I think it right to say it has to do with our own repentance. The angels were given a choice immediately after their creation. We don't know what it is but some chose wrongly and thus became the fallen angels or demons. They can't be forgiven. The reason why is angels aren't like us. They work differently. When they make a decision it is perfectly informed and permanent. Our decisions are all imperfectly informed and impermanent.

So God forgives us because we repent. His forgiveness is always there for anyone who can and does repent.

  4. Thank you for your replies so far. Two different people, two different aspects and theories. I find truth in both of them. On the one hand, God is eternity and one cannot compare God to oneself. On the other hand, his forgiveness is eternal and he forgives the ones repenting. That is a beautiful gift, that can't be thanked for enough. I hope, we never lose our courage and honesty to repent and I thank the Lord for being there for us, for sending us his grace and forgiveness. I pray, we always find strength in the Lord and have trust in our faith, so that we're able to stand up after falling down. Thank you once again, it is unbelievably fantastic to feel that there are brothers and sisters on their way with you! God bless you all!

    God is Love.
It is us who reject him.

God lives in communion (Trinity), and communion is where love exists.
We likewise live in communion as the Church.

When we sin, we distance ourselves from that communion, from that love.
God does not administer punishment but intervenes for the salvation of our souls.
We have free will. We love too however, if our object of love is not God, we create an idol.
For many of us, pornography is that idol.
    We have many idols.

I am not Roman Catholic, but I have run alongside for a long time and I can understand the place of Purgatory as being the 'pain' of removing from ourselves the idols. It is like a person who hoardes having to sort out their house. Every object they are attached to causes immense pain to throw away, but ultimately, this pain is insignificant compared to their great love of God.
Likewise for us, our suffering in nofap is made pure by the object of our chastity before Almighty God.
We have a greater love and God forgives all...but do we forgive ourselves?
