During the reboot, avoid anything that causes you to get a dopamine spike, and thinking about sex is the thing that gives you a dopamine spike. Get rebooted first, then take your sober brain out for a drive.

It is very important to understand a few key concepts, and use some of the vocabulary developed here. The point of the reboot is not to never have sexual thoughts, or never have them, again, ever. The point of the reboot is to allow your brain's screwed up neurotransmitters to get back to normal. So, understand it as a relatively short time in your life to achieve freedom from porn addiction, forever. During the reboot it is normal to think about sex, because, in or out of the reboot, it is normal to think about sex.

That last sentence is difficult for some of us to wrap our heads around, but only because we have long ago lost the ability to normally think of sex. The addiction takes that away from us.

Our problem is that we have not been thinking about sex in a normal way, but have been using porn to create hypersexual thoughts, and that leads to what we are really addicted to: a prolonged, powerful, and profound dopamine high. That high is what we are actually addicted to, porn is just a button we push to generate sexual thoughts that are extreme (as in not normal), and those lead to a dopamine high that feels like liquid bliss.

So, in order for your reboot to be more successful and more efficient (meaning faster to complete), you need to attempt to suppress sexual thoughts as much as possible, during the reboot. No one in the reboot ever completely stopped all sexual thoughts, but the successful rebooters develop distraction techniques to avoid them, to stop a two second sexual thought from becoming a 45 minute sex opera in your head. Put another way, to stop a little drop of dopamine from becoming a dopamine bath.

We all abused our brains, for years, in ways that are not "normal". While having sexual thoughts is, for a non addict, perfectly normal, a porn addict in the reboot must become abnormal in the opposite way; we have to avoid all sexual thoughts, even what might otherwise be normal, because, by doing that, we are avoiding our real drug: dopamine. Remember, it is only 90 days, and even if you are not back to normal by then, you will be able to see it on the horizon.
