Going to therapy for the first time

So I recently got a college admission and in two weeks the new semester starts. I've been doing a lot of self improvement after I utterly destroyed a relationship and slipping into depression for a couple of months. Now I'm doing better, but I'm still pretty hurt. I thought this is starting to become a problem in the long run, so a visit to the doc wouldn't hurt. Never did this before and I am keeping it pretty secret from everyone. What can I except from therapy? How should I prepare myself? Should bring some of the books I've been working with to get myself together? Thank you in advance.

I too am in therapy I'm seeing a counsellor for my P addiction. Don't do what I did and hold back information every time you see him. He's there to help and they never judge you for your mistakes. They are always there to guide you. They talk based on what you tell them but the majority is you're telling them everything and they ask you questions. Sometimes you find the answer while you're answering your questions. That's the beauty of it. I remember I told myself I would go just a few times to clear it out of my head. But as time went on I started to build a bond between him and I he became someone I could fully trust. When you tell him ho successful you've been he generously congratulates you maybe you'll start to cry. I know I did I teared up when he said he saw a huge improvement when he first saw me. always keep him informed with what you plan to do with your progress tell him about nofap. Maybe he'll reccommend a few books. My counsellor recommended two books called " the porn trap" and another called " in the realm of hungry ghosts". The porn trap explains why people do it and there failures, accomplishments, what triggers the brain it really goes in depth I fully reccommend it. I haven't read in the realm yet but what he said is the book explains why people stick to habits why people take a certain path for their lives etc. Don't worry my friend you're in good hands. Hopefully you don't get a bad one. I'm sure you'll know from the start. But in reality, if you tell him everything by the time you walk out of your session you'll feel right as rain and feel like something has been lifted off your shoulders.

    God luck man!

  3. I never prepared for my first session with my therapist. Now I am hospitalized after a suicide attempt, I think it is my fourth week here. I am talking with a psychologist every day. It is my fourth therapist so I am starting to get what it is all about. The first thing I have to say is that it takes time to get to know your therapist. I still need some time to fully trust her, and because she is a pretty hot girl I do not think I will ever mention nofap. PMO isn't my main problem in life though. It seems more like a symptom. Bottom line is that you should not worry about seeing a therapist or that you do not know what to say. Everyone needs some help from time to time. Good luck!

Hope all is well with you man! You'll get better and stronger. Life is the greatest gift for us all. It's up to you how you want to live! Never think drag or suicide is the way to go. Think of all the people who would be hurt if you left this world. Even people on this forum who have seen your name, replies, comments, likes. It'll affect us all because we could have stopped you. Be strong man! You know you can do it!
