I am speaking only about the consumer aspect. It doesn't in fact harm anyone except the user. Now, if you want to propose increased government regulation in the industry to ensure human rights and whatnot for performers etc, then I think that's reasonable.

  2. Nice response.
I've been sober nearly 6 years. I wasn't a classic alcoholic stereotype by any means. But I was a heavy drinker and an excessive bungee that drank most days.

I'm quite sure that if I drank today... I would NOT maintain the self awareness not to drink tomorrow. People who are not in touch with this subject might consider it weak and I don't mind that label as I appreciate not everyone understands.

  3. And in response to the original question. No you shouldn't ban porn. Just like you shouldn't ban anything deemed as harmful and addictive. It's about education and teaching people to behave sensibly.

  5. I'm not in favour of banning things. I think education is the answer.

Some things in this life have no useful beneficial purpose to the world.
Porn is one of these things.
It serves no purpose to the human race other than selfish desire.

    Banning should be the answer.
Why waste time and resources on education about porn, the longer porn exists, the more people get hooked, the longer people are hooked, the more extreme their taste. Education can only do so much.
We have all likely read through the various articles on anti porn sites, educated ourselves on the various effects it has on the mind, yet we all still relapse on occasion. Because porn is so easily available and our darkest desires can sometimes control us and even stop us thinking rationally.

This is why porn is an evil that should be banned and all traces should be deleted and cleansed.

Great answers from all of you.

I asked this because I was thinking about it and the question of banning vs education came to my mind.

In my opinion, one follows the other. It shouldn't be in opposition. Education first, and once people are educated enough to realize the poison to society it is, eventually ban it. It's never going to be straightforward like that of course, you'll always have liberal extremists who will defend it.

But I think that the vast majority of parents are very worried for their children, and young people will eventually realize that real, passionate love and sex beats the shit out of that filth. That's why I think most people will welcome the education on porn addiction.

  9. No, just saying that porn does harm people other than the consumer.

I agree with that, just not in support of a governmental ban I suppose. :)

Adults are free to make choices as to whether they follow a career in porn, as much as they are free to make choices as to whether they consume porn

While you're at it ban cigarettes, alcohol, vaping, guns, cars, fossil fuel, mining, meat, forestry, air travel....

Not the fault of the porn industry that certain people get addicted to it, nor should normal and rational people who are responsible consumers of porn be punished for certain groups who get addicted

  16. it's not an accident that porn is more prevalent and actual political dissent is more limited ('hate speech') .
Pornography is a weapon used to destroy societies.
The government should shield people from those things that are dangerous vices (drugs, gambling, pornography) that's different than being a 'nanny state' . Everyone agrees to this to some extent- no one here, I hope, thinks banning child pornography is taking away freedom.

    YES!!!

Any one who opens up porn sites, should be executed by law of given life in prison.

  18. The problem is porn has existed in one form or another since man learned to draw and prostitution as they say is 'the oldest profession' I would make online pornography illegal to produce..however by making it illegal you also then criminalise those who view it which in the long run would create more social implications such as those people being registered as a sex offender and then finding it almost impossible to find work, start a family etc. An approach like the model of drug law enforcement in Portugal would be more beneficial to society I believe, so users are not criminalised and the dealers (producers) are made to face justice. In practice, though it would be very difficult since there will always be a demand. The best way is to make it not socially acceptable again. I remember reading an article recently in the paper asking the question 'is it OK to watch porn on your smart phone on the bus' ? this is a sign of the times I'm afraid and the fact the question even needs to be asked is scary.

I'd like to see the laws we already have enforced. Porn tube sites don't keep records and signatures of consent from the people being shown in the sex acts. How are they getting away with it? They must be hiding behind some loophole.
