I'm not interested in videogames anymore, and that saddens me

I had the same thing go thru my head so I played one day. Didn't play it again for another 3 months. tried again because I was so upset I lost all my desire for things I used to like,GOT SUCKED in for a week......

In being honest: is a ps4 going to contribute to your happiness and productivity? And won't set you back? I honestly considered playing my xbox for the full 90 days at one point lmao. But I just ended up going back into my old patterns when I got bored of the video games at night/morning. Personally there's better things to do that will actually contribute to your long term goals but its your call. Il never judge anyone on their growth.

  2. I'm 29 and still love playing games (probably too much). So age can only be one factor amongst others. For some time I got very picky about them though, resulting in tons of games I own but only played for some minutes. The main aspect for me is to play together with my online friends, as I don't have many real life friends. I know this could be a trap and I have thought about quitting games or at least reducing the time I spend playing them. At the moment I think it's more important for me to quit PMO and concentrate on that.

But back to you, I think your sadness about your "loss" of videogames will go away as you spend time with the new interests you mentioned.

16 here, I'm starting to play games less and less, but something I will always play are games made by this studio called Naughty Dog, have you heard of The Last of Us, it's more than a game, the story is an emotional rollercoaster

I gradually lost interest in video games too. I was a hardcore gamer in my teens. I lived for playing video games. I went to school, went home and played video games until I had to go to bed. On the weekends or on holidays I probably played 8 to 12 hours on some days. I've played enough for a life time. When I was around 20 I started to lose interest. I can't really say why. Probably because I had already played all the games that were so facinating to me. I'm actually glad I played some because they have really touched me deeply. But 95% of playtime was wasted time. I can't changed that now. It was probably better than being addicted to drugs or having a child in your teens. Most people probably waste their teens. That's what they're there for.
Most games today, just don't interest me. I think after all those years of gaming my mind started to look for something new because video games were old and dull. Unfortunately I haven't found anything yet.
I still play from time to time but only because I have nothing else to fill my time with. I could easily go years without playing if I had a good replacement.

Thanks for sharing your opinion . I decided not to buy it, I have a feeling that I'll play for a little and end up getting tired of it sooner or later. Plus it'll take away from the things I actually like doing and that it's not a waste of time for me like Music,Reading, and playing sports. Appreciate you .

I could never understand how people consider gaming a waste of time, yet movies and especially reading are not. I would argue that more neurons fire while gaming than either of the other 2.

I see your point. What I'm saying is I was addicted. I've never been addicted to movies. And the only books I read are non fiction and self-help at this point. I'm just interested in learning everyday. Hope I didn't rub anyone the wrong way or you..im on nofap to stop all the rubbin. :D and I will say you can learn things from games no doubt,so there's that. Just don't get sucked into the whole stay inside your room and only come out for food ideal.

Gotcha. No offense at all! My post was more of a simple observation than any thing else ☺

I think you are right dude. What I've noticed is that I've been watching a lot of youtube lately. And movies/tv shows. So it seems I'm replacing gaming with that, and that is not healthy either.

Yes! I need to mention that. Now I'm 100% tired of games like GTA and Assassin's Creed. But games like Dead Space and the Last of Us at least keep me interested

I agree 100%. Sometimes people feel morally superior because they dont play games yet they waste hours and hours in Netflix.

I can't help but notice the differences in preference for the kind of games to play, here. It might be coincidental and it might have nothing to do with it...
But the thought struck that perhaps MOBAs, FPS's, RPG's and the like can more easily have an addictive and negative influence on your life than platformers, racing games, and adventure games?
Not sure, of course, but there might be a relation there.

  12. When I don't got a game I'd like to play I also tend to just watch a show or movie on netflix.
I think games and movies/tv series got something in common with porn: the change in availability and quantity. Back in the day there just weren't that many games around. You bought one and played the hell out of it. Often you had to wait for a similar game to be released. Now the market is full of games, just look at how many new ones are released daily on steam alone. And with all the low price keys (not to talk about illegal ways to get them) it's no big deal to always have the latest games.
Same with shows and movies. We are already so used to having our favourite shows available at any time, anywhere. Some time ago you had to wait for the show you wanted to watch to come up (okay you still got to wait if you are watching "good old tv", but I'm talking about online services).

Btw I consider books to be a better way to spend time, because you are activley reading them, using your brain for various things depending on the book genre: imagine the surroundings, bring new information in context with those you already know, think about a peotical statement and so on. You do that in your own pace. Games and shows are often a constant stream of information and I think you can get much more out of a book. But that's just my opinion.

Well I think MOBAs, RPGs (especially mmo), fps and basically every multiplayer focused game is simply much more time consuming to begin with. Games that are more arcade-like or got a set storyline just take less time because they are designed to be played for some short laps/levels/... or are finished after a playthrough. Game designers deliberatley put elements into games that keep you hooked, for example the ranking and unlock systems in most modern shooters. People who spend much time with your game are more likely to buy dlc or premium content...it's all about the money.

I just turned 30 and I am struggling with games. Something inside me tells I'm too old for this.

  14. It's very subjective. I had clanmates who were past 50. Maybe everyone has a personal gaming timer ;) Just don't let people/society tell you it's childish or something like that.

I went through a similar experience myself; I sold my console along with all my games about a year ago due to the same feeling.

That's exactly right. I'm sure that videogames are not childish. My favorite games are Mario games. I just can't play them like I used to.

    Do you miss them?

To be honest, not at all. Although, it did take a lot of pain and disappointment for me to truly let go.

  18. gotta agree playing games with friends is great. i think if you play them for short amounts of time it makes you more happy. long amounts of time makes you depressed

  20. I'm kind of in the same dilemma. I used to lovveeeeee my playing my Xbox 360. Long story short it got stollen. I know have the opportunity to buy a PS4 or a Xbox One but for some reason I don't want to. I used to spend countless hours playing 2k Fifa and Madden. Some of my best friends are begging me to buy a ps4 so we can play online together but idk.. I just don't want to. Whether it's because I'm aware that I used to be addicted or maybe I just wanna focus more on school idk.
