What activities can we replace PMO with?

    Hello!

So I've come up with an idea a couple of weeks ago, but for some reasons I've left it untouched up until tonight. The idea struck me while I was in the shower and I started working on it immediately.

PMO is an addiction for most of us and we should replace it with meaningful things to do. Sometimes, we run out of ideas and we could use a list. Therefore, I created InsteadofPMO (hope it's not considered advertising), a place where we should showcase all of the possible replacements for this habit or what we could do instead of relapsing.

It's hosted on Blogger, accessible by everyone and I'm using a fast-loading premium theme, optimized for mobile/tablets, so that you can search for activities regardless of the device. I will never display ads on it.

This is made entirely for the sake of the community and I'm not looking to gain anything from it. The project is still in BETA and I could use some help. You may suggest an activity, useful apps & tips that you're using or get involved even more by publishing yourself - let me know if you want.

I try to categorize the activities as much as possible for an easier navigation. Let me know what you think and if you consider it useful.

    Thanks for reading!

Great ideas man, bumping it up and I'll be writing a little bit of comments on the blog itself.

    EDIT: On books:
It'd be nice to have titles, but before I get ahead of myself I'd set some categories.

Under fiction probably anything except anything with romance, so even if it isn't that genre it'd be good to screen for scenes that has sex like I hear some women sci-fi authors will throw sex in their books so it would be good to have reviews.

Under non-fiction I'd probably go with 3 categories at this point, since these help in understanding and working on the issue: PMO recovery focused, addiction, and other science stuff like neuroplasticity.

Most probably know Your Brain On Porn for the PMO focus, there are a lot of addiction related books, and related science stuff especially on neuroplasticity include The Brain That Changes Itself by Normal Doidge, and he has a newer book too.

Oh here's something a little different: Listening to a binaural beat recording. There are many out there, but all you need is a pair of headphones for the brainwave entrainment effect (difference between left and right) which can really help you relax. One title I recall is 'Brain Massage' by a company called Brainsync, I could really feel it.

@mcrcvrng, thanks for your input. Yeah, basically everything's still on beta. If you would like to help me post, you can send me your e-mail address and I'll list you as an author. I can't take care of this project all by myself since I have a job that takes a lot of my time, but with help, it's quite easier.

I was able to post a comment under reading logging in with Livejournal, do you mean adding categories or something?

  7. great idea. In SAA, these are called outer circle activities. Here are a bunch I can think of:

Be in nature (walk or sit)
    Listen to music
    Journal
Sleep (we all need more of it)
    Learn a new skill
    Learn a foreign language
Do your chores (fold laundry, clean your room, vacuum, etc)
Help somebody else (volunteer, help a friend move, etc)
    Buy someone a gift
Write someone a note of thanks or appreciation
Call your parents (even if you have issues with them)
    Exercise
    Cook
    Garden
    Take a class just because

  13. My #1 idea: Start a business/build up your own career. It takes a lot of energy and dedication, gives you goals to strive for, and really leaves you with very little time or energy for something like PMO. Plus, you also know that if you do PMO, it'll sap a lot of the energy and motivation you have, leaving your business suffering, so it's a good way of keeping any urges you do have at bay too.

I started an unpublished post for hobbies, still new to the software and also not sure what image to use for it since it can include so much.. Feel free to add to that one, I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Yeah sure, take your time in posting things, there's no need to rush. I came home earlier from work, rest for a bit and I'll try to post new things this weekend since I'm free. Please let me know if any of you would like to be added on the about page as a contributor
