So I've been part of Nofap for a while now (maybe 2 or so years?) and well the truth is that I have failed nonstop when it comes to quitting porn, now I have had a few good streaks (longest being 3 months) however its on of those "win the battle but lose the war" type of situations. I want to quit porn permanently, and if I just keep doing what I've been doing there isn't any chance in hell of that happening, so I've decided it would be best to remove the temptation altogether even with all the repercussions that could possibly follow. I will still be checking on this forum and doing other quintessential stuff (via public library), so it won't hurt me much outside of the occasional assignment that is overdue.

I know it might sound a little drastic to get rid of my ability to access the internet anytime I want to, but frankly, even when I was first getting my laptop I had series concerns that it would just hurt me in the long run, and that is exactly what has happened. I'm not going to just pretend that my laptop is to blame, it was (and still is) my fault, however, in order to succeed I have to become fault-proof. It won't happen for a few days at least (I'm going to sell it to a buddy of mine), however it will happen, and when it does I'll be one step closer to achieving my goal of a porn free life.

Thoughts? Opinions? Critics? I'm not looking for what people think about my decision exactly, I just had to bring it up, if that makes any sense.

I commend you wholeheartedly @melancholy king. It seems to me that most of us never truly rid ourselves of this awful addiction without some extreme sacrifices. I eventually capitulated after 7 months hard mode last year (I had other triple-figure streaks). It is all too easy to tell ourselves - in this point in history - that gadgets and technology are necessary. But they are not necessary. As you have indicated, you can still safely access the internet in a public space when you wish. May I ask, if your phone is internet enabled? Having a tablet, a smartphone or other internet device would undermine your plan.

I applaud your bold move as well! Well done. You may want to create a plan for what you are going to do instead of going online. Without that there will be hole in your life. You admitted that when you didn't have the internet for a week you were lonely. The question then is what are you going to fill that void with? If you plan to fill that with helpful and healthy things I'm sure you'll feel rewarded and enlightened like you mentioned from last time. Reading is a great thing to do! However, keep in mind that reading is solitary and can be isolating. Part of the challenge with PMO addiction is that it is so isolating. And when we are isolated we feel lonely and our addiction is our go to way to make us feel better and take away the loneliness. However, afterwards we feel more lonely and then also have guilt and shame on top of that. We need to be around other people, to connect and interact with them in healthy ways. Make sure you plan to do things with other people too so there is a balance and you don't feel too lonely. While it's true that just because you are alone doesn't mean you have to feel lonely, that only can happen if you have meaningful interactions with others happening too. For ex. Schedule times to get together with friends. Get out and meet new people. When you are in public and catch someone's eye, smile and say hello to strangers. I find it so rewarding to get a smile back in return. If you want to really get bold, compliment a complete stranger on something like their outfit, haircut, car they are driving, etc. Random acts of kindness will do wonders too! Good luck to you.

@melancholy king : Perhaps this will be the best decision you might ever done. If it means getting rid of a porn-poisoned life, it is absolutely worth it. No benefit from the internet is worth being a slave to PMO.

Cheers and might this be the beginning of a new life for you!!!

    Whatever works for you.

You could try by giving it to a friend and asking them to keep it for a week.

Another alternative is this https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/ it would eliminate access to all porn to everyone in your wifi.

    Hey @melancholy king,

Good for you. Knowing that you can live without the trap in your home is a good thing. I thought I was "extreme" by getting rid of my phone.

It is good to see that you are ready to really make the sacrifice to find peace. Be aware that your library may not block porn depending on how they are set up.

Update: been clean since, have been doing other stuff to keep busy, so everything has been good so far.

Oh and thanks for the warm reception. It is appreciated.

I thought that making this thread might help make it easier for others to do similar, when I first considered purchasing my laptop a year or so ago, I did it mainly for college, however after I realized that most of my work could easily be completed using public computers (both at the college and elsewhere) I had been in a standstill between getting rid of the laptop or keeping it, obviously I chose the latter, and you know what? Should've done it a lot sooner.

Have still been having issues, even without any electronics one still has to resist against PMO.

My curiousity always gets the best of me, stopping MO is a breeze pretty much, but to stop looking at porn completely is difficult for me.

Yeah I clearly have self control issues, I'm going to try and set my environment up in such a way that I won't be tempted anymore. Regardless, still better than before when I had my laptop. Thank you.
