Hi,I haven't watched porn nore masturbated for 5 days now and I wanted to ask if it's ok to watch porn for just 5 sec to see if I get an erection or not. Because I never got an erection just by watching porn I needed constant stimulation. Is it ok if I watch just to see if it changed?

This is a porn recovery site and you want someone to tell you it's OK to watch porn to test your dick! Are you serious? o_O No, it is not OK. This is the question of a heavily addicted person to pornography. You must cut porn out - no excuses.

I think it is kind of natural to get an erection when viewing porn. So, there's not really much point in testing it. If you have been abstaining, you'll probably get an erection more easily—unless you've passed that 90-day mark.

  6. The key is not to get an erection watching porn, to get one with a real woman. Like a previous poster said, if you want to be PMO free, then there is no cheating or halfway, it's all or none.

I did it during flatline mode and I remember I did like 4 or 5 clips. Did NOTHING for me. Remember being very repulsed and disgusted. It was around 20 to 30 days into this rewire/reboot. Yet now? I wouldn't even dare!

In a few months or years you will come back here and laugh at what a typical addict-type question that has been.

One of the following is going to happen:

You watch porn. You don't get an erection. You continue to watch porn, trying to get an erection.

You watch porn. You get an erection, maybe even ejaculate. It feels good. You continue to watch porn.

    It's a lose/lose situation. Don't do it.

  11. All this. ^

I'm going to be blunt here. There's no reason to "test" anything. Short of your cock falling off, leave the poor bugger alone and let it heal and rest.

In sufficient time, morning wood will come back, spontaneous erections, etc and you will know that nature has done her job and functional normalcy is yours once again.

Exactly. Even if he was able to watch porn, get an erection, then turn off the porn and leave his dick alone, that wouldn't tell him anything about progress. You know you were getting an erection with porn before, didn't matter if you had to rub it to get it started.

The addiction is about the seeking behavior, not your dick's response. That's just a side effect. You don't check to see if you're healthy by seeing if you still have the side effect. You go about your normal life, and look for the absence of the side effect, which in this case would be a HEALTHY erection, without porn or stimulating yourself to warm up.

Good point re seeking behavior. It's the novelty that hooks us more than reaching orgasm. That's also why we need to be on guard re switching addictions and finding other sources of novelty. I know that I have a problem with this, because I have other novelty-hunting type addictions such as collecting heaps of media on bit torrent, watching a half million educational youtube videos until 5 minutes in, or shooting photos with giant DSLR. The latter is particularly interesting: doing macro photography of stills is much less exciting than dancing crowds... or flying birds. I never cared about birds, until I started shooting pictures of them. :)

    So folks, be on guard.

That sounds like it could be a GOOD addiction, channel that energy into something creative, possibly find a way to make a career out of it (or a side income). I've got a few friends who are fantastic photographers. I'm trying to get back into drawing.

Maybe I should look into a lower-end DSLR, so I can get better reference photos or dogs, and at punk rock shows. I don't think I want to get seriously into photography, but I would like to take better pics than my phone will allow, particularly when motion and bad lighting are involved.

I thought the idea of this was to be able to get an erection without porn? If so, then watching porn won't test shit. Just stay away from it.

  16. WTF? Stay away from porn. If you watch 5 seconds of it, the next time you will want to watch it 10 seconds, and after that longer until you are truly hooked again. Just a few seconds can mean you can be hooked on porn agian especially if you had porn addictions in the past. If you keep watching porn you may only get erection while watching porn, but unable to achive that when you are with a woman. Besides it can lead you to be more sexually exicited watching porn than having sex.

I have similar problems getting it up, but watching porn wont solve my impotence problems. It made it worse and I had other sexual problems besides impotence. For me I will wait till the right woman comes along and becomes my wife before I can truly become sexual again.

Yes, Aaaaaand - it's interesting to notice the rush that comes with, say, chasing a bird with a tele lens for that perfect shot. It's Dopamine, and it feels very similar to clicking that link to a porn site.

A lot of good advice. That thought is your addicted mind trying to get you to watch P.

It's like a meth head going to rehab, then asking if it's ok to smoke meth to see if it does anything, cause it never did anything unless he shot it up.

Point of fact, it doesn't matter if the porn gives you an erection or not. Porn is the main thing we all come here to avoid.

But don't let it get you down, we all struggle. Your brain is going to try to reason with you, so you'll give it what it wants. The fact that you came here and asked is a good sign. It means that somewhere in there, you knew what the answer was going to be.
It's going to be difficult, but that's why we're here.

But not all sources of dopamine are bad. You have to work for that, and you feel a sense of accomplishment, and you have something to show for it afterwards. The dopamine is your brain's way of rewarding you for doing a GOOD JOB, and encouraging you to keep on working at it. You're not going to get such a huge burst of it on such an easy consistent basis that you become inured to the dopamine, and seek out bigger doses, neglecting other activities.
