    Hi all,

I'm a 27 year old (well, 27 next week so close enough lol), and have decided that it was time to try and give up on this last crutch of mine. My story is pretty similar to a lot of other people on this forums, I started viewing pornography at 12 and never really stopped nor consider/realize the possible consequences of frequent pornography use until I was much older. The typical negative manifestations from porn addiction has affected my life for a while: social anxiety, depression, low energy, insomnia, low self-esteem, etc.

To deal/escape with these previous issues and in an attempt to combat my anxiety, especially in social situations, I turned to alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, opiates, and benzodiazepines which escalated from heavy use to addiction. I eventually realized that I had basically two options: to OD/suicide or to get help. Luckily I chose to get help. I've been sober for 1079 days, my three anniversary will be October 5th. I am blessed to have a supportive family who had the means to help me get the help I need and build a strong support system.

However, with porn it's different, I was born and raised in the Southern U.S. where religion heavily influences upbringing and certain subjects like sex and pornography are taboo and actively avoided. Deep down, I have known that my frequent porn use modeled my other addictions. But, I rationalized it with reasoning such as using pornography was not detrimental to my physical or financial health so how harmful was it truly? As I have continued to grown, I have gotten to the point where I can no longer ignore the elephant in the room: I have a pornography addiction. This elephant became super loud when I discovered and yourbrainonporn and nofap and I've decided that it's time to break this last chain and stand fully on my own two feet for the first time in a long time.

After reading the different types of modes I decided that the kinda gold standard 90-day hard mode reboot was the best choice for me since I'm single and in the last semester of college. I'm currently on day 11 and have mostly been flatlined and foggy with flashes of color, but man do those days with color give me determination to stay the course. Yesterday was the first time I found myself maintaining eye contact and started noticing women checking me out and began to feel good about myself.

If you're still reading this wall of text then thanks for taking the time to read! Some more details about myself: I changed majors 12 credit hours away from graduating with a completely different field to computer science. I love to cook, read, do carpentry, exercise, and work with my hands.

I look forward to this journey, as someone who has dealt/deal with substance abuse and if I learned anything it's that there is no such thing as failure when it comes to dealing with these issues, there is only progress; just the attempt of taking control of your life is enough to make you successful.

Thanks all and once again, sorry for the wall of text!

  2. Wow--incredible self-awareness. As you know from your other addiction(s), self awareness is critical to change. I found you post very inspiring and can relate to aspects of it. After the hard reboot, it may then be time to really examine what is healthy sexuality for u. That can be different from what mom and dad say, or pastors/priests/rabbis say, or what the sex ed books say, etc. And it might not be. We just need to consciously decide in my opinion versus letting the programming of the past and shame be the voices that direct our decision making.

Wow my friend. Incredible story, and your self awareness is very inspiring. You can definitely do this. Having overcome addiction has apparently given you the strength, patience, and self-awareness to know what you need to accomplish a goal. NoFap will only make you even more confidence, energetic, and socially successful.

By the way, I am also a software engineer. I made the career changing to software development about 1 year ago and I love the structure of problem solving, and the seniority that's implicit within this industry. CS thinking can be applied to many other problems. And NoFap will give you a distinct advantage in an industry filled with quiet people who do not speak up much (and probably M to P because they're mostly men in the same generation).

After this 90 stretch, you may end up hitting what is called a flatine. Flatline for me was very, very scary and almost caught me a great relationship with a beautiful woman. FEAR NOT. I have some tips for overcoming flatline if you should find yourself getting worried about your member.

Getting through flatline to "true libido"
    - Kegel exercises
    - Exercise regularly
    - Take ginseng supplements (1000 - 1500 mg twice per day always with food)
    - L-arginine (500 mg as needed, do not take with Sildenafil or any ED med)
    - Sildenafil (if you absolutely must have sex)
    - Notice how people are more attracted to you, they laugh harder when you make jokes, you randomly make eye contact with people. Look internally and realize that this is much more exciting than PMO. (Personally, I'm not a negative person, but if it helps you remember that these benefits will start to dissipate if you begin to PMO again!)
    - Stop watching NoFap videos, and instead just read text stories. It takes more time and will keep you from PMO-ing.

Hi Daedaleus, welcome here, and wishing you loads of strenth and good luck quiting porn. Inspiring story, considering the huge steps you've already made and the selfawareness you show. Keep up the good work, you can also do this!

  7. Hey Daedaleus, quite a story you had to tell! Congratulations on beating all those other addictions. Thank god for your family. It is inspiring to read how you got back on tracks, and continue to work on it. I think you have the intellect and experience to quit p too. Beware of triggers though, this world is crazy.
You have hobbies that should get you around interesting, good people. Maybe do a course or join a club?

  8. Hi. Trying to escape the labyrinth, huh? Be careful of the Sun though.

You have broken the chains of other addictions which makes you better equipped than most. But this PMO thing is ... insidious. It's always available and the general society's approval of it might make it hard to keep oneself lucid about its negatives. I hear former nicotine addicts who were strong enough to say goodbye to cigarettes saying that nofap is much harder.

I want you to join me and the rest of the gang at https://nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/rank-up.248564. It's a bit of a competition, hopefully motivating.

  11. Heyyy welcome to the NoFap forum : ) It's nice to see you here fighting the good fight alongside us!

    Here is just some advice:

First and foremost please take a look at each section in the forum, there might be something(s) you may find of big help to you. Feel free to post there :+)

Then secondly I just strongly advise you to be active on your profile(as there quite a few active people in the profile section). Please start by choosing an avatar and then make daily status posts to show you're active and needing support/encouragement. They've also got a neat little feature that shows freshly posted statuses for all users to see. People will find your profile and give you encouragement/support.

People (are beginning to) love communicating in the profilesection..(it should be and is )mostly spportive talk but it doesn't hurt to deviate from supportive talk. It would be great to have you join in and support others in the threads, profiles, and journal. Make sure and be grateful for the help you received and help after receiving some. Invest in some people's journeys. We could always use your help and in return you shall receive some as well!

Thirdly, You should also highly consider creating a public journal and write about your days in more depth for us members to follow along your journey and offer support to you by way of posting in your journal.

Last but not least: Good luck on your journey here, make sure to really give it a try with all your heart!
