So I was born with ADHD/ADD and my dopamine levels are naturally deficient because of that. What's the point of me trying to recover from PMO addiction if my dopamine levels are going to be deficient either way. If I don't get a definite answer soon I'm just gonna relapse.

It's cause after you get a dopamine hit from masturbation, it'll be harder to get excited for regular things more than usual. I would say nofap is even more important for someone with ADHD since you want your brain to receive dopamine from everything rather than just porn. You'll stop responding to other activities even more and start getting excited only by porn. Don't relapse man, you got this.

  6. Doing nofap is about a lot more than just not getting dopamine fixes from PMO..

I'm extremely sad to say that my 12 day streak is now out the window. I fucked up about 5 minutes ago. I was waiting on a reply and I didn't get one soon enough. I kept going back and fourth and eventually just said fuck it. I wanna die now

I'm a laymen of course, but can you elaborate?

Does this mean that your dopamine receptors:

    - aren't as numerous as the supposed average
    - are blunted, reducing optimal functioning
    - something else

Reason I ask is you probably know the ways we're advised to raise dopamine (diet, exercise, sleep, meditation, sunlight/vit D, reduce stress, etc.)

Can you raise your dopamine with those factors, even if your....threshold is lower than the average?

Sorry man. I don't really mean it. I'm just upset I didn't see you guys' messages before I just relapsed. Literally right before I relapsed. I'm sooo mad at myself right now. If I read your messages I wouldn't have relapsed

Because the more you become addicted to PMO the less pleasure you will be able to feel due to desensitised dopamine receptors and the more and more extreme porn you will have to watch to get that pleasure. Eventually the only way you will be able to feel pleasure will be through perverted fetishes and drug abuse. But if you choose to quit then your dopamine receptors will heal and you will be able to enjoy life again and any pleasure is better than no pleasure at all.

    ADDict923,

There are people with ADHD/ADD that find other ways to fill their dopamine without filling the void with an unhealthy PMO addiction. Listening to music, getting plenty of sleep, meditating, and doing healthy hobbies all increase dopamine levels without creating a reliance on something as addicting as PMO. I know that feeling of telling yourself “why not, it’s not a bad thing”, but you have to tell yourself the truth that PMO isn’t what a healthy person does, and I hope that in these times of PMO urges you stay strong. Best of luck to u

Porn addiction cannot be reduced to just a dopamine issue. It's just one neurological component in a large chain of neurological events. I wouldn't worry too much about it or draw conclusions because of it.

  15. I wouldn't focus on dopamine and whatnot. Just try it for yourself and judge by the effects you feel.

You're 19 now. Binge PMO for 19 more years and you won't only have dopamine deficiency problem, but also PIED, depression, anxiety etc. I've been suffering from chronical major depression and social/general anxiety since 13 yo. I self-medicated it by binge (P)MO for 25 years and it wreak havoc on my body, mind and personal/professional life. It's totally not worth it. There are better ways to raise your dopamine levels like proper sleep patterns, exercise, meditation, prayer, real life relationship, proper diet (no processed food, no sugar except in fruits/milk, lot's of fruits, veggies, fresh water), supplements (omega 3, vitamin B complex, D3, minerals Zn, Mg, Ca, K - all good to fight depression).

Go ahead and relapse. Sometimes when we ask for help we don’t know how to ask. I hear that you are frustrated, maybe scared, maybe confused. But I don’t know what you hope to achieve by saying “Gimme an answer or I’m gonna relapse”. We don’t have all the answers for you! (Although many here act like they do) Really, I can only share my personal experience. What works for me.

I have done the work to find my answers. Therapy, meds, groups, abstinence etc. We can’t give you the answers to life but you can find your own answers! And we will support you while you search.

Try to step back and take it a day at a time. This shit is hard! But life is even harder when I fuckin PMO all the time. Even if I PMO every 30 days it better than every day!

Take a breath man and just know that this is possible for you. Don’t give up before you really get started.

  20. I’m one of these people. I have adhd and I’ve found that running really helps me. It’s a really good source of dopamine that doesn’t leave me feeling guilty. And when I burn off that extra energy I’m less apt to relapse.
