I don’t know how you get over this, but I experience it too. I love novelty. Or do I? In most of my life I don’t really like novelty. I like like going to the same restaurants. I like hanging out with the same friends. But I seem to love novelty with porn.

I think this preference for the known in most of my life is for two main reasons. Newness requires work. And it is only with familiarity that you can have deeper experiences. Regarding this second reason I’d say there is a trade off between depth and newness. So maybe learn to better appreciate depth.

I also think our culture and its technology promotes the vice of curiosity, which is to want to know things you don’t need to know or shouldn’t know. I’d work on disconnecting. I’d work on not caring so much about celebrities, sports news, other news, insider information, gossip or whatever in your life might be useless information or information you don’t need to know.
