I have been doing nofap since march. Only looked at porn twice since then. I feel like my body cant relax. Have chest discomfort come and go. Seen a cardiologist they did a ultrasound of my heart and said it was good. He wants me to go on antianxiety meds to see if the helps. I can't shake this anxiety. It feels like my body has the shakes but inside me. Was wondering what your guys take was on antianxiety meds or if you experienced something similar?

Ive struggled with anxiety the past 4 years pretty intensely, its almost defined my life to a certain extent in the sense i havent felt my life could begin until i overcame it... I never considered medication to be honest, just because i felt there was a concrete reason as to why i was suffering from it and that meds may get in the way of me finding this (possibly true im not sure) . The point im at now after my last relapse is that i am truly convinced my anxiety is directly linked to porn and masturbation, just because when i am on particularly long streaks i see a great improvement and then when i relapse the anxiety just comes flooding back, the contrast between before and after is so obviously clear to me now. The thing i have found is that, for me anyway, a few relapses in a short space of time and i am complete back at square one. Some people say that one relapse may only take you back a week or whatever but i really dont think this is the case, i even some times think that the neural connections that support the addiction are strengthened further and your reward circuitry is really knocked sideways resulting in withdrawals symptoms such as anxiety coming on faster, more intense and lasting longer.

Im not sure what im trying to say its just i completely understand how mentally exhausting anxiety can be but not just the actual physical symptoms but also the fight against beating anxiety.. and some times it can really seem like an uncrackable enigma. For me, relief has come through trusting this process and not relapsing because the withdrawals can really be savage and get increasingly worse with each one.

I'd advise you to stay away from anxiolytics. They work great but are also highly addictive and you need to up the dose the get the same results over time. Trust me, you don't want to get addicted to them. PMO addiction is hard enough. I went through some severe panic attacks during first months of recovery. You need to just learn to let it go. What helped me, when my heart was racing +200 bpm to say to myself F... it, I'm OK with dying and this acceptance helped me calm down. The other thing that helps me is hour of daily aerobic exercise (brisk walking, running, cycling).

I've taken ssri for depression and anxiety and they were a very good short term solution for me. In the moment they stabilised me and allowed me to build up a bit of momentum. If possible, I highly recommend seeing a therapist of sorts too.

  6. I went through alot of anxiety issues in the last two years. Heart thumping, visit to the cardiologist, etc. Sounds like the docs checked you out and, like me, they suspected it was related to anxiety issues. It's tricky to give advice on medications since different people have different opinions. They can be very helpful, in my opinion, depending on how they're used - especially in combination with other techniques which you can learn from either a counselor or a book.

As for the latter, I can highly recommend The Anxiety & Phobia Workbook by Edmund Bourne which is a very well-written, well-researched, multi-faceted approach to managing the issue (including meds as one option). Anxiety really sucks but it is a very treatable condition, especially if you're willing to put in some effort to learn how to manage it with various tools that are available. So don't just suffer with it, ok?

Thank you guys for all your support. Ya the feeling like my body is running a marathon but is tired at the same time whenever I'm awake. I have been taking CBD oil for the past two days and that seems to help. Only been take half the recommended dose. Have an appointment with my doctor today, I'm going to ask him about CBD oil. I'm not a big fan of popping prescription pills for anything.

I'd try the SSRI's too. They aren't addictive like the benzos and anxiety reduction can be a side effect. On top of that, they often depress your sex drive, which could make things a lot easier for you. I took them for a little while for social anxiety and my sex drive dropped a lot.
