Abstaining and regaining health

  1. Hi all,
I have plethora of health issues.I am hoping that my continuing abstinence will assist me.When I was engaging in PMO I used it as an excuse not to make lifestyle changes. When I did so I lacked the clarity and energy to do what was needed.
Can anyone else relate to this? If so any advice would be most welcome.

    What kind of health issues?

I can relate to having health issues that have been addressed by addressing my pornography addiction, but it's an indirect corelation. One of them is cystic acne that was caused by hormonal imbalance generated by the anxiety I had, anxiety that I ran away from through PMO. Once I handled the underlying emotions that lead to said anxiety, PMO became easier to drop and my hormonal imbalance corrected itself in some respect, that now my acne is almost entirely gone.

  3. Hi,thanks for responding pal.I have fibromyalgia, hypertension and suffer from depression. On top of all this I am morbidly obese.
It may be possible to alleviate some of the above
But it will require a huge effort on my part.I will certainly reflect on what you have written.

    Thanks for sharing!

I'm not a medical doctor, so there is some speculation here, but it's based on my own direct experience (depression) and what I learnt and researched in the past year (plant based diet as lifestyle, psychology). Take it with caution and do also your own research, but I hope I can give you some points for you to look for in your own reflection and research.

I have severe depression that I'm fighting currently. I wrote a post detailing on what depression really is and how it works (https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.p...ilosophy-for-a-good-life.235280/#post-2083496), I highly recommend to read it; it's distilled from my therapy sessions. Your PMO is very likely triggered by the depression, not the other way around, and depression has to do with your childhood trauma and current environment (disconnection from people, from nature, from society etc.).

Regarding the obesity, I'm sorry to hear, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to even do basic stuff in life without gasping for breath and feeling tired all of the time. Hypertension is starting from your obesity, because your blood vessels are constricted and the heart has to push harder for the blood to flow. I could recommend that you watch a documentary called "What the health"; in the film, there's a story about a woman (Amy, she gets introduced at minute 12:10) that was obese and had asthma, but through a plant based diet managed to lose weight and bring her life back to, more or less, normal (the story at 1h 18m 12s), where she could walk without gasping for air. Here's the film: I'm not vouching that what they're saying is 100% correct, but if you think it's worth a try... I'm also recommending "Forks over knives" (I believe it's on Netflix nowadays), and that takes into account science in a more rigorous manner.

In addition about your obesity, two different rather highly acclaimed books I read recently link obesity with physical abuse in childhood; I wouldn't speculate about this though, I reckon it's super personal and I'm not a medical practitioner. The two books are "The boy that was raised as a dog" and "The body keeps the score"; I recommend both of them, they have been fundamental to my understanding about my own depression and emotional trauma. The theory goes that to cope with the abuse, a set of coping mechanisms were developed by your brain in childhood, mechanisms that are not adequate anymore in adulthood and need to be revisited.
