So lately I’ve been doing lots of research and reading through books, YouTube, podcasts, etc, on how toxic porn is to the human brain. Porn will ONLY cause negative effects for men in the long run. A lot of this information I’m coming across has only come out in the past couple years, so I can’t imagine what damage it’s going to cause in men say 10+ years from now. Especially with all the sad shit like VR Porn being normalized and becoming more popular.
Now my theory on all of this is that porn has been normalized and introduced into society to demasculinize men. Think about it this way, imagine how different the world would be today if all men didn’t watch porn or rarely masturbated... I think it would be hugely different in many aspects.
Not to mention the rapidly increasing number of divorces and relationship fallouts that occur in today’s world, I think that should raise a huge red flag. Once again, if porn wasn’t normalized, free and so easily accessible, I don’t think men and women would be having as many relationship issues as they do today.
From my point of view, this is due to the ‘Coolidge Effect’ (google it if you don’t know what it is). Once a man believes he has had sex with his partner enough to no longer be turned on as much as he first once was with her, then he starts searching for his next type of ideal woman that will cause a new and bigger rush of dopamine and chemical reaction in his brain. Then eventually the stimulation for that new ideal woman will decrease, so he seeks out his next target (woman) to give him that addictive chemical reaction/rush.
Porn has made this so easy for men and has brainwashed men into thinking it’s normal to have this mindset.

I think porn can lead men into many mental problems too, for myself being a recovering porn addict after 6 years and suffering PIED at a stage, I discovered this first hand. It’s all related to being addicted to a chemical reaction. Eventually your mind will no longer get the rush it once did from your favorite video or picture so it seeks out the next ‘big rush’ content. (Again this is related to the Coolidge Effect). Causing you to become psychologically addicted to certain brain chemicals (dopamine, etc). And after years of practicing this, it will lead you into some dark shit like paraphilias and fetishes you weren’t meant to develop (keep in mind these are still reversible with the right methods of healing the brain).
For example, just look at the amount of guys recovering on this forum from being addicted to femdom and sissy bullshit. They know deep down it’s not right, but they can’t seem to let go of the chemical addiction in their brain. Hence how porn is demasculinizing them and many other men.
Not to mention the increasing number of men suffering from anxiety and depression, that’s a discussion for another time though.

Take the evil Ted Bundy for example, if you know the background story to his early days before he committed the terrible acts he did, he was addicted to pornography. It escalated with time, and he was seeking that next ‘big rush’ which would get him sexually aroused. This leading him to killing women which aroused him, a form of paraphillia. The guy even confessed the day he died that he believes pornography led him to these devilish acts.
Now I’m not saying men who are addicted to pornography will end up like Ted Bundy, this is just an extreme case of someone becoming mentally addicted to a certain biochemical reaction with their body and mind.

In the end of the day, Porn is a business and what do businesses love more then anything...? Money! They want you to become addicted so then they can earn money off of the amount of visitors that go through their website/domain and earn profit through ads etc.

Lastly, nothing good comes from porn. It teaches you no good, and if anything it’s stripping your soul purpose as a human being. You’re on this earth to learn as much positive information as possible and become the happiest, strongest and most positive self you can become. That way you won’t be full of regret lying on your death bed wondering why you wasted so much time on pointless pornography which taught you nothing but how to ruin your life and kill your masculinity as a man.

    Comments and discussion welcome.

    Peace.

Something that frustrates me and is incredibly mind boggling for me, is wondering why porn is free and so easily accessible. It is clearly understandable why so many porn addicts struggle to give up porn addiction because of how easy it is to access and fall back into that life cycle pattern. For certain people that have any type of addiction, whether it’s illicit drugs, smoking or alcohol, they physically have to make the effort to leave their house and fill their addictive needs by going to the store or meeting their drug dealer. Where with porn, they don’t have to leave their house and it’s within a click of a button that they are able to access it. Therefore I think porn is by far one of the hardest addictions for an individual to give up. Yes the withdrawal symptoms aren’t as bad say as a heroin addict, but the accessibility will always be a lot easier compared to other addictions. Since this is the case, the same addictive neurological pathways can be triggered just by opening up an internet browser or browsing through instagram and other social media platforms when seeing content of attractive looking women. Therefore it’s a lot harder to go cold turkey with this addiction compared to other addictions. I just personally wish pornography wasn’t free, because I think that would prevent a lot of guys from relapsing. Especially considering the type of chemical reactions it sets off in the brain compared to other normal content on the internet. Although if an individual is able to defeat pornography addiction, there will be a huge amount of discipline and self control learnt throughout the process. This will be hugely rewarding in many areas of your life and will allow you to be way more self conscious and disciplined with yourself in the future. Major positive life lessons can be learnt through defeating this toxic addiction.

I genuinely believe the porn industry wants to hook people in as addicts so they can earn more profit. That’s why I completely resent against the porn industry. They don’t want the best for you in life. Simple as that.

It is a wonder. I’m in favor of limited government. But currently there aren’t many limited governments in this world. The governments have control of all sorts of things. The governments have all sorts of rules to protect kids (say from alcohol or tobacco). And yet anyone and any kid can go look at porn on almost any internet connection. I’m not necessarily advocating for a solution. But I am saying it is interesting none has really been made (save for in a few places’. It is really a nefarious thing that porn is so accessible.

  8. I will disagree with you as I have to do often here.

Complexity involved in modeling what would our society look like without pornography are way out of our reach, but if we tried we would need to spend billions of dollars in research and studies, years of time and employ brightest minds in across vast array of industries and we would then give a guesstimate to the best of our ability that maybe will be "relatively close" as to what would be happening.

And yet you come here and in one post save us all the trouble and billions of dollars and clearly lay out what wonderful things could happen.

We cant project what what water supply will be like in few years on planetary scale a you are talking about individual human behavior.

I am sorry but nobody has even remote clue, what the effects of removing porn would be.
What if actual outcome is massive number of rapes, unwanted children and rampant abuse?
What is actual outcome is basement sex shops and HIV epidemics?
What if actual outcome is massive psychological problems and widespread depression and suicides?

History has shown that even when we research topics as well as we could, we are almost always wrong, and attempts to control social factors have failed in the past.

Why dont you go to country like Bangladesh, Malaysia or long list of others where there is Jail-time for using pornography and talk to the people, see if society there is as amazing as you think western world would be and then come back and tell us all about it.

I respectfully see a problem with your approach. You have seemingly posited that we can only know things with models and billions of dollars of research. That isn’t true. We can simply use logic to arrive at conclusions.

If we knew that pornography were inherently bad then we wouldn’t need studies to see what effects come from it. This is a moral question. But even your idea of a study is a moral question since it involves what is better or worse for people.

I disagree. In fact the results of pornography are obvious. Most of the problems you identified already exist. They are a result of the sexual revolution which is what has led to widespread availability of pornography and use of it. Pornography used to not be as available.

We don’t have to do that. We can go back in time to an America that jailed people for pornography. Life then wasn’t perfect, but in many ways it was much better, particularly in sexual matters.

When did I state that I want to remove porn from society...? I’m not for banning or removing porn from society at all, I just personally believe the world would look different if men didn’t abuse it like they do today (that’s my personal belief, you can think whatever you want).
All I have mentioned was the negative effects it can have on men in society if abused frequently and not used in moderation. I don’t agree with porn having positive benefits and believe it has a much larger scale of negative side effects. People that use excuses and say Porn cures their depression or loneliness, are truly not facing the big picture in their life. If they are suffering in these ways, they need to solve it by going out into the real world and working on their personal agenda, staring at a fucking screen with pixels on it, isn’t going to solve that. But from your perspective it seems as if you think porn will do more good for people with psychological issues then bad... ooookay then. It will only ever end up causing short term gain and long term pain. And for you to think that removing porn would increase things like rape culture is unbelievably idiotic. Porn has allowed to lead men into these categories by triggering an addictive chemical reaction in their mind and body. Without porn, it would be a lot harder for men to explore their own evilness.
I’m sure travelling to a 3rd world country like Bangladesh will help me understand the implications of banning porn and how it effects a country/society... hmmm yeahhhhhh great point buddy... Keep in mind a place like Bangladesh is heavily controlled by religion and believe that porn had caused people in their country to behave more perverted after viewing porn.

I like how you’re jumping to the absolute extremes with your point of view. It’s kind of amusing to see. Seems like you’re the sort of person who just wants to win arguments and be right. I’m not trying to convince people to never look at porn or encourage the banning of porn as a whole. All I’m trying to do is educate people on the negative outcomes it can lead to and what my outlook on it is if it were not free and normalised by society.

    Much appreciated brother!

  13. I agree 100% with everything the op has said, i've read up about the industry, the people who perform in it and the ones who call the shots. Plus i know all too well the downsides associated with the users and the societal issues this can bring.

This is the biggest issue we face today, as a modern society our community is now fast becomming a global one and it's not so much 'men' who are thinking it's normal to have this hyper sexualised and violent mindset, what i worry about is the boys, some as young as 10 looking on the net and what they will find today is a far cry from what would have been available 15 years ago.

If you are interested in learning more about porn, academically i mean ! lol then i recommend reading 'How porn has hijacked our sexuality' by Gail Dines. It's not expensive and it's available to buy on Amazon.

I also recommend visiting this site to check up on the work they do https://endsexualexploitation.org/

When i was a user, i didn't know any of the harsh truths surrounding pornography, i used to think it was all just a bit of fun and that the actors must enjoy what they do because they're getting paid or they must really like sex etc etc. But ignorance is bliss so they say.
What helps me to stay away from porn today is understanding the truth around porn, the dangers, the difficult and horrific stories we hear about the porn stars with addictions to narcotics, suicide etc and the ways this easy to access mind junk affects the fabric of society.

Keep fighting bro! Fight the good fight

  14. So not banning or removing but you would like to know what it would be like if it was not used, I guess it that is very different.
I will just repeat for you - we do not know what the effects would be and we can not even remotely predict them.
You make assumptions about what pornography does and does not do for social structure at large but, those are your guesses and beliefs.
People often believe things for no good rational reason and then actively express those opinions as facts, but changes made on scale of civilization and often not intuitive.

If you do not accept that pornography has benefits, then you are not looking at it objectively and this is what i am pointing out.

If person is not seeing the other half of the argument, then - yes he has to be shown, but typically that person will not listen to the information see it as personal attack, and accuse the other party of being argumentative and then proceed to lis hist arguments as to why that is the case.

Educating people is a noble cause, I support that as long as it is grounded in research, knowledge and facts. But when I see attempts to educate, where point of view is presented with significant inherent bias, lacks supporting evidence and research and is basically one sided opinion. I may bring the other side of the argument to the table, simply because it missing and let others decide if it has validity.

We do this all the time. For instance, no one did a study on what the societal effect would be if we banned dog fighting. Maybe some people get their aggression out by watching dogs fight.

Even with increased popularity and promotion most people still hide their porn use. Many people don’t think very much of people involved in making porn. No matter how you frame it porn is voyeurism. It is watching other people have sex. It seems to me most of us still think watching other people have sex is creepy. Psychologists may say how great it is. But psychology is not consistent or scientific. Psychology is largely a tool for people to advance their agenda using a false veil of science.

  16. Your opinion on this is completely wrong.
To understand why, find a respectable university that has strong psychology program and contact one of their most established behavioral psychology professors, simple email will be sufficient.
Ask if we can model outcome of question at hand and see what he/she will say.

But who wants to do that if we can just guess.

  17. I do not see how you moved your point forward. You say people made changes without properly investigating their effects in the past and so therefor it is fine if we continue to do so?
You can propose any change you like, the issue here is your inability to predict their outcome on the scale of society at large, and you seem to think you can.
Any industry has a dirty side, what you think of people that were abused in India making your shoes or shirt for $3 per day salary and then died when the factory collapse on them due poor maintenance of the building?
Psychology is a scientific approach to interpreting, modeling and predicting human behavior. Human behavior is inconsistent by its very nature, which is why we developed this field of psychology so we can better understand it. Psychology proves its worth as reliable science by effectively predicting human behavior, Police, FBI, Negotiators and Investigators among many other fields are built on the foundation of psychology.
Psychology as a field defines many industries and is heavilky used in game design, advertising, city planing, traffic patterns and allot more.
Psychology is a complex field and there is allot to still explore, but rest assured, that research and effects this field has on our society is as significant as field of mathematics or law.

Well sorry to break it to you mate, but I didn’t start this thread to have an argument. I appreciate your perspective and where you’re coming from, but not one thing you have mentioned I can agree on. I’m speaking from personal experience and knowledge I have gained through doing tons of research through books, forums and videos. If you seriously want me or anyone else to reference every bit of research and evidence we have gained, then you came to the wrong thread buddy. That’s being incredibly obnoxious to request that someone on a nofap thread supports every bit of evidence with sourced references. You can do your own research. We aren’t your college students. For the people that want to know the books and research I have read, they can PM me. The people on this forum are seeking help and advice on how to conquer and understand nofap/not using porn and how it has affected others personally.
Therefore I want to help these individuals by letting them understand the potential negative side effects it can cause. But if you expect someone to start mentioning the positive benefits porn may have for someone in the short term on NoFap's forum.... then you my friend are a moron. I’m not here to try and predict the future, win arguments and provide both sides of positives and negatives, so then people can decide for themselves which one they are drawn towards. That’s ridiculous, especially for NoFap's forum.

Sorry to break another downer for you mate, but not one person has agreed with your point of view on this thread.
I will acknowledge where you’re coming and respect that. Nothing else.

I think I’d want to consult a philosopher since that is the department where logic, epistemology and ethics reside.

I don’t disagree that psychology as a field has some knowledge. But science relies on experiments. Since human psychology experiments are fraught with danger it, as a discipline, can’t really fully use the tools. And when it comes to predictable solutions to the most troubling problems humans have it doesn’t have a great success rate.

  20. This post started with - "what if pornography was gone" concept, and how different our world would be. To which I replied - we cant even remotely predict what that world would be like, because our best science that may model and predict these changes is unable to do so effectively and will produce best guess. And if that is the case we cant really make judgements about what will happen and therefor saying, life should be great is as silly as saying life would be a nightmare. We have no clue.

Now after all the verbal exchange, you just agreed that psychology is poor at predicting outcomes to most troubling problems and success rate is rather low. Basically we are unable to effectively predict outcomes to complex problems so any definitive position is questionable...

And I am the argument seeking party here....
