Is responsible porn consumption comparable to responsible drinking?

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Fractured Mindset, Jun 28, 2019.

  1. I've been asking myself this recently- can porn be consumed safely and moderately similarly to alcohol use? What's your opinions? Please be civil.

Note- I know I can't handle porn (personal experience, why I'm here), and believe I should never consume alcohol because I wouldn't be able to drink responsibly.

Interesting question mate - I think for some people yes, for some people no. The experience with all stimuli differs from person to person. I can happily just take a couple of puffs of a marijuana joint, but i know most of my friends will smoke 10 joints a day. It boils down to whether the individual can tame their urges and addictive personality.

Whereas I'd imagine most of them can probably view porn and not binge watch, or explore it to the depths that some of us have.

For most of us here, i think the answer is probably no, although maybe given enough time you can master your self-control (guess some people with success stories might be able to confirm this).

Of course, alcohol doesn't involve entertaining stories (at least directly) where you suspend disbelief to put it mildly.

"Responsible" porn use is comparable to "responsible" heroin use or "responsible" krokodil use.

i am a believer in the power of porno so I would agree with the previous poster that it's more like heroin or fentanyl rather than alcohol.

    Stay away from it

  6. If you are posting on this forum, the only acceptable amount of P is zero. It may be different for others; I do not know. That is none of our concern. For us, it must be nothing.

  7. I think it boils down to the individuals weakness for addiction. Someone with addictive traits i don't feel is ever going to be able to use porn, drugs, alcohol etc in a controlled and measured way.

Porn is not like heroin or cocaine in that it's addictive in and of itself, It's more to do with the individuals perception and psychological well being, how they understand and deal with sex. I will go out on a limb here and say that most of us put sex on a pedestal, so much so that it overshadowed many other things.

Someone else for example who has a good attitude towards sex, love and intimacy may find viewing porn 'interesting' and a bit arousing however they most likely would be able to take it or leave it and others simply would be repulsed by its graphic portrayal of sex.

I think at first we all thought we were using porn 'responsibly' just like the pre-alcoholic who goes out with their friends who might drink a bit too much but it's not until later when all the other friends have grown up, got families, responsibilities etc that it becomes more obvious to everyone around them that this guy has a real problem.

  8. you don't know the basics of heroin use if you think there comparable.

not only do i think you can do PMO responsibly (AS MANY DO) i think its actually necessary.

if you do noPMO your sex drive increases, that is why its hard to stop becoming an addict.

because your basically treating ADHD with cocaine!

you need to mange your sexual energy so you do not explode in a reckless manner.

if you do 20 days and you want fap fucking do it like just don't think you failed a binge and be depressed and drain your energy thats what an addict does

if you do 20 days your not an addict
and if you fap its because your sex drive is high not because your addicted

drinking is far worse than fapping. you can knock one out in about 10 minutes but drinking takes a day and your hungover for the next 2 also causes physical damage to your organs and impair control and judgement you can end up killing someone or even yourself.

  9. Spoken like a true addict

  10. Trust me, it will never be used moderately. It will keep ruining your health. You dopamin will keep asking for different type of materials, and it will be hungry to ask for more.

  11. Oh yea because every addict is saying to quit pmo you need to cut down on it not stop it.

look ive been through years and years of nofap its not healthy to spike your sex drive it leads to worse content i see the pattern i went trough many times, its the high streaks that make things worse

if you cant see how a spiked sex drive is bad for a PMO addict you sir are blind!

  12. i've been free from all porn, drugs and alcohol for 4 years now and i'm perfectly happy with my sex drive thank you

This is how I used to be with porn, I would fap when bored and never think about it, take like 5minutes and be done. yes it killed my sex drive but that would fully return in a week or so... I then put so much pressure on myself to quit along with other things and then I got fully addicted to it, and now I can safely say that 0 porn is good for me because the pathways in my brain are very addictive... but before once a week would have been absolutely fine for me.

  15. but should you not be working on reversing your pathways instead of avoiding them until you relapse and behave in an addictive manner?

you see i think we all should be trying to rewire our pathways but instead we are just avoiding them and allowing our sex drives to become more explosive when we do meet those pathways that we are avoiding

What is 'reversing pathways'? It may be more like having many more pathways so it's not the only way.

well by not using pathways they eventually become dormant. Im sure you know this already. by not PMOing, the pathways will die eventually.

  18. yes and also i think repetition is key to make these other pathways more automatic. so like to replace the old pathways with these new pathways you keep using the new pathways at the times you would normally use the old then the old gets replaced

It depends on why you think porn is wrong. If it's just wrong because of the personal effects it has on an individual then responsible use may be possible. But if it's wrong more broadly than that, wrong for the world and disastrous for most women who end up in the porn industry then responsible use is zero use. I believe the latter.

  20. true but it may not be the best way to deal with it, it certainly is an option and has worked for some. unfortunately i been trying that way for 4 years with no luck in stopping the addiction in fact it has made me go onto worse content because of a spike in sex drive. so its not the best option for me.
also i'd like to note it did cure my pied

but i do think the other way has a lot of potential of helping you get by as a non addict
and the original way helps you become an addict again because of the spiked sex drive causes a bad relapse
