You won’t block or better yet get rid of the WiFi or internet then 100% you are going to have streaks of 2 weeks max. I guarantee it.

    Take control.

There are going to be times you are lonely, disappointed, facing rejection etc etc. You simply cannot have adult content only one click away under these circumstances.

Be careful with such statements. It has nothing to with "being a man", when you decide against blockers. You're not less of a man, when believe you need blockers, although it might not be as effective as a lot of people might think.

You should be careful with such discouraging statements. Who are you to know "100%" how long he is going to make it? You can't know that. For your information: There are a lot of people on this very forum, who never used any kind of blocker and still recovered quite fast.

Yes, these times will come. And then you need a strategy how to deal with them in a healthy way. Even when you have blockers installed, porn is still reachable within seconds. It may not need only 1 click, but 10 will do it for sure. So, a blocker is not the solution.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating. I have no desire to add to any of the arguments I have so far put forward.

I would encourage the op and anyone else reading to try both methods and figure out what works for them.

  4. Hey buddy, take it from me, using porn blockers or any content blocker is only like putting a small hurdle in the way and when you have the urge i guarantee that it wont take long for you to break it.

Addiction is a harsh mistress. people will go to extremes in order to overcome whatever it is that stands in the way of using if they are feeling like they need a fix.

I'm over 4 years clean from porn, drugs and alcohol and i tried early on to use things like open DNS, even tried gluing timer sockets on to the wall and router power supply so the internet would turn off at a certain time each night, all in vain because eventually i just went out bought a new router and plugged it in, changed the open DNS settings back to normal etc.

The real hurdle is ourselves, the only person who is responsible for acting on your desires is yourself and one must find a way of gaining control so that you don't need an external barrier. Talking about it with others helps, getting things off your chest, trying to understand the true reasons why you want to escape into this world of fantasy and then putting in things you can do to replace it. Over time with practice and abstinence it does get easier. The first 90 or so days is tough but if you truly want to be free of the shackles that porn has chained you in then you will succeed if you hold onto a vision of yourself and what you want to achieve in the next 5 years.

Thanks for the advice guys, I understand what you guys are talking about and I will use your advice to help me in my NoFap journey.

  6. Agreed! Depending on where you live there is always public access to the net. Do you really need it at home if you are addicted? I personally would never dream of looking at porn, let alone masturbating, in a public place with wifi (public library or coffee shop), so that would work for me. But some poor guys that would have to go that low...honestly, they really need help and should have zero qualms about seeing anyone they trust (professional or not) about that help asap.

Public internet access can be extremely dangerous for privacy reasons. The providers know everything you do on the net. Do you really want that? The often repeated "I have nothing to hide" is simply bs. The simpliest things can be so private, that nobody should know them. You should never do online banking, while you're in a public network, for example. And there are many more things, you should never do in an open network. In todays modern society, it's simply impractical to not have your own internet access. Also, it doesn't really help with recovery, as I explained in my earlier posts in this thread. So, in the end you should do whatever you find helpful, but imo it's pretty clear, that getting rid of internet access is not the way to go for the vast majority of people.

I can help you lock Kaspersky Anti-Virus for porn sites ... but that will not help you ... because the handset and computer are everywhere ... if you lock one of them enough Dart

  9. You point out some very important things. I should have been clearer. As you could probably guess, I did not mean that as a total solution. But perhaps for a few days if a guy just wanted to read the paper, fire off a few emails, watch something on Netflix, a local coffee shop might be a better option than sitting at home feeling tempted. But yeah, we definitely need to be aware of how we behave on public access.
