I've had Covenant Eyes (with an accountability partner) for several months now and it works pretty well as a deterrent. Unfortunately, I've recently discovered a weakness in the system.

They have recently come out with a product called Screen Accountability, which is supposed to periodically take and analyze screen shots to check for porn. This sounds like an improvement, but before I add it, I'm curious what people's experiences have been (e.g. @min the maxer, @frogs2345, @PowerOn, @RebootIan, @JoeJoe12345, @vitatertot). In particular,

    - Does it take pictures often enough to detect problems?
    - Does it analyze pictures correctly for the most part?
    - Does it slow down your system significantly?
    - Are there disadvantages compared to the more traditional website tracking?

I haven't had screen accountability even work. I haven't checked my reports because I know what I did.

They have upgraded it and it is better than ever before. The website explains in detail what the changes are and why they have installed them.
For me, the less I know, the better anyway.
The accountability software isn't really a conversation about specifically what it does and doesn't do, because my addicted mind is wired in such a way that if I think there is a weakness I will exploit it.
For example, the original covenant eyes was great at stopping my accessing and searching for porn but for a while I struggled with 'soft stuff' like the kind of thing you can access on apps and even shopping sites such as lingerie etc.
I realised that it triggered the 'seeking' element of my porn mind and I started obsessing just on a way I did with porn.
This new screen accountability was a godsend and came at just the right time.
The new tech uses AI to identify any images that are potentially not good for you, for example a bikini shot or a lingerie youtube video. This means it keeps you safe not only in browsers but on apps, players, stores... Pretty much everything you look at on your screen.

Now I know that my wife will see absolutely everything and I will have to explain it to her. So I just don't do it.
    No questions.
    I just don't do it.
This is what keeps me safe.
The relief was amazing to know that I couldn't access that content anymore and I didn't have to worry about 'trying to access it' either!
    Does that make sense?

That makes perfect sense to me. A lot of the time the things that stopped me from quitting was just pure anxiety about not getting my hopes up because I was afraid I couldn't do it.

When I used blockers before it actually made it worse, I searched for websites that weren't blocked, I found ways around the filter. So I can understand why simply not having to worry is just such a nice feeling.

Is the software completely bulletproof thought? for phones and PCs? Ultimately I know that if I ever use this software to quit it is likely ill have to use it for the rest of my life. Hence, I am facing my fears and beating this. I want to live a normal life and have the strength to just say no. but ultimately if it ever gets to that I will want to use a software that puts all my fears at bay and lets me quit hassle free.

    cheers

  5. Why do you handover responsibility for doing what you are supposed to some software? Why not actually take responsibility?
Any third party software that monitors your computer is massive and I mean MASSIVE security problem, and if it takes screenshots and analyses what it is on your screen, you may as well send them all you private information and baking credentials yourself.
Company itself or someone who exploits them can gain full access to your computer, steal your identity, money whatever. Its insane to even consider.

As close as you can get to bulletproof.
Put it this way, to uninstall or remove it you need a special code. And who is the only person with the admin rights to generate a code? My wife!
Can you imagine if I requested a code to remove it? She'd want to know why!
Short of binning my phone and buying a new one, I am safe!
This thing has saved my fucking life. 6 months clean now and a big part of it is due to this software. Well worth the money.

  7. It is no bad thing for a lame man to walk with the help of a crutch. When the limb is healed, the crutch can be discarded. Until then, it can be a great help on the journey.

Don't you feel after 6 months you have total control and can get rid of the software?

  10. And then something bad happens, you are in bad mood so you buy a laptop for $150 bucks and you are back in business.
Rule number one of being responsible person is accurately understanding risks you take and actual consequences of your actions.
You handed over all responsibility to software and your wife. When asked why you cant do this, you say - well my wife would be upset. Not because you do not want to.
It sounds almost like - one kid asking another - lets go play and he replies - my mom does not allow it. io - I want to but someone is not letting me.

    Pretty much yes.
I hardly even think of porn anymore which is great.
But complacency can be a terrible thing.
That's why I always talk about how important it is to work your plan daily and tools in the kit. This is just one of the many tools that helps me stay clean.
I have mentioned other things that have played a part in my recovery in other posts.

  12. I have been in active recovery for six years and have used accountability software for four of those years. It is installed on all of my devices, and I will not own one that does not have it installed. I plan to do this for the remainder of my life.

A road near a cliff has a guardrail. For years, there are no accidents. In fact, the guardrail never even gets touched! But the municipality responsible for the road does not remove the guard rail. Why?

It is for this same reason that I will not knowingly go online without accountability software in place.

I understand you guys, I really do. It must feel like such a weight off your shoulders to not to have to worry. But at the same time, if we're so keen to quit, why cant we simply do it ourselves? it really is a difficult scenario.
