  1. Count how many of the following statements are true for you.
    • You use more extreme pornographic material than you planned, use porn more frequently than you planned, or have used porn over a greater time span than you planned.
    • You have several times expressed that you would like to quit or reduce use and/or have unsuccessfully tried to reduce or stop use.
    • You spend an inordinate or inconvenient amount of time acquiring, using, and/or recovering from the effects of porn.
    • You experience strong cravings for porn.
    • You have compromised major obligations at home, at work, or at school due to porn use.
    • You continue using porn despite knowing that it is consistently causing or worsening social or interpersonal problems.
    • You have skipped or given up significant social or occupational activities in order to use porn.
    • You use porn in ways or locations that are physically hazardous.
    • You continue using porn despite knowing that it is consistently causing or worsening physical or psychological problems.
    • You have acquired a tolerance and need more lengthy, varied, or extreme porn to feel the same or similar pleasure as when you first started using.
    • You experience unpleasant withdrawal symptoms when you abstain and may use porn to alleviate these symptoms.

Good to actually quantify it somewhat, but of course we would also want to address how to recover from it. While some things can be addressed by abstinence, cravings cannot. Even if it's craving for masturbation in the absence of porn it's likely there's some old memory of porn playing out in the mind.

We should also at least touch on the social ramifications, the fact that it distorts perception of real social connection - in other words screw up your chance with a nice potential partner whereas otherwise it might actually work with them.

Anyway not to hijack this thread, but while people who don't have this as an addiction might not see the problem it's important for those who recognize it can be a real issue to not take it lightly. Whereas people who have been in a sketchy religious organization might go through a process of deprogramming specific beliefs, with porn there are no such beliefs but there is a subtle kind of programming/conditioning, and we might think about how to clear that. Even very devout people with strong beliefs, religious or otherwise clearly still struggle from this, so I'd point out the quote attributed to Einstein that you cannot solve a problem on the same level of thinking it is created from. It seems to be not only do you want a comprehensive plan of both abstaining from PMO but on the active side also enrich your mind with content you know to be beneficial - and not just on one level.

I'm not an addict, that should cheer the poll up.

  5. Before I started nofap I had a severe addiction. There isn't one of those bullet points that doesn't relate to the person I used to be. Thankfully now I'm happily engaged to be wed to the most beautiful and supportive woman. I thought it was funny when it said " you use porn in locations that are physically hazardous" multiple times I have put porn on while driving the highway. That was incredibly stupid of me and I'm lucky that I never got into an accident.

Before going into "monk mode", I would have scored 10/11... The only point I could say NO to would be: "You use porn in ways or locations that are physically hazardous."
