I am thinking in converting from Catholicism to Orthodoxism.

    1) are there good resources as books or websites that can help me?
    2) where can I find orthodox prayers?
3)In my nation there are some orthodox churches but I can't understand it's "logic". In my regional capital there is one from the Russian Orthodox Church but in their Facebook page everything is in Romanian
4)any special things I should know?

I am moving away from Catholicism because I don't agree with some of its principles, Orthodoxism feels closer to the original church, and to be honest the Pope is more a political figure than a religious leader.

Orthodox here. Romanian actually. I am not familiar to pages in English explaining the.

I personally dont pay too much attention to prayer types but in my limited knowledge of Catholicism, it has more prayers and customs directed to various Saints instead of God, which is one of the reasons i don't like Catholicism that much. Thats not to say Orthodoxy is free from this type of idolatry, cause it has its own obsession with holy icons, but i feel its more oriented to God/Jesus directly.

One other difrerence that is very important to me is that Orthodoxy is much stricter than other Christian denominations, both in adhering to what is Sin and consequences for it.

For example, some priests may and will deny you Communion if they consider you need a "time out" for your sins. You have to prove you're worthy of receiving it.

If you have other specific questions, let me know.

  3. Yo i dont wanna say this is dope. But thats mad interesting. So does that happen often in present day church services, or more a thing of the past?

Sadly it's getting rarer now. I assume it's a consequence of the current culture of "everybody gets a prize" and a panic of the Church that people are losing their faith anyway so priests are scared of being tough on them.

I've been denied Communion for a couple of months after i confessed my very extensive masturbation and porn behavior. He wasnt judgemental or anything about it and it actually was a very powerful wakeup call.

Hi. Im from Russia. In Russia there are a lot of priests who drink alcohol, use drugs, take bribes from bandits and the most terrible are engaged in pedophilia. And many among the priests of homosexuals.

  7. That will only accelerate the demise.

    And

There are more and more muslims in Russia. They observe the rules of Islam and give birth to many children. We russian slavs are not interested in religion.

I read the Torah, the Bible and the Koran. I can't believe in one thing like so many people. I plan to read philosophers who wrote about religions. I've watched a lot of videos about clinical death and I'm curious that many people at the time of death saw Jesus who saved them.

This is true, I'm of the opinion that go to the church were you find the most spiritual growth. Specifically within either the orthodox or catholic church's. I was actually raised a catholic because my mom was catholic, but during high school I decided to become orthodox because it was providing me with the spirituality that lacked in the roman catholic church's in Canada. Though, there are some extremely beautiful traditions within the catholic church that I wish existed where I live. There aren't many traditional catholic church here in Canada, the one we attended as kids was borderline protestant.

As I grew older though, I learned more about the catholic church being orthodox then I did being catholic. I think I grew a greater appreciation for their ancient traditions studying them from an outside perspective. Whenever I attend a mass, I love seeing the similarities between the church's, and the great reverence people have for the alter. I love the adoration prayer and I think its one of the most beautiful traditions that I wished we had in the orthodox church. Also, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux is one of my intercessors. I've personally seen her miraculous works first hand. She does a lot for the people in Egypt (i'm Egyptian fyi), there are many testified miracles that she's done, and she's very active until this day.

Both catholicism and orthodoxy partly relies on "works" salvation to make you right with God. That's not the Gospel at all. We have this saying at my church, "Your works plus Christ work, won't work".

  17. I love it! "but I chose God of my own free will, god has nothing to do with it. its all my choice" Im god me me me. Anyway.....when we say orthodox I'm assuming that's orthodox Presbyterian?
