Off-Topic Discussion > any other thread

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Jun 13, 2019.

  1. Whos with me? I pretty much always come to this thread versus all the other ones. I sometimes go to the other threads but it seems off-topic section is the best. Self-improvment is pretty dope too.

The main threads all seem to be re-occuring questions and/or pity posts about their addiction. Like, we get it alright?

Well the off-topic section wasn't why NoFap was started. Without the other sections there would be no point in the NoFap forum existing. I would say really the best section is the SO section. I've been apart of two other rewiring forums and none of them have a section for SO. It's important we hear from the SO and get another perspective of how the addiction effects others. Also most of the fights take place in the off-topic section. Having said all that I spend probably more here but still I think there are other sections that are far more important.

I agree, but lately I have been visiting the Dating on Reboot more often.

  4. I scan this section sometimes, but it's been less and less often. I used to do it a lot, though. Nowadays I explore other sections more often.

  5. Yhh I'm on my journal most, logging my peaks and troughs.

2nd is other members journals to gain insight and give support.

    3. Is my grateful 4 thread (plug)

4 is off topic and/or sandbox for fun and random stuff

  6. . .... I feel ashamed to say this but I don't find most of the other threads helpful at all. No blame to the site but rather the users/members.

    There's two kinds of ppl

    1. "Help me please I'm begging someone help with my really vague and non discript problem"

2.oh yeah, I know it all. Oh yhh. Know everything i do. Addiction? pff a hundred days me..

So imho OT is a good place to chill from the crowd.

Yeah, I left this forum a few times because of a number people acting like they know everything. They act like their experts but unless you've studied the subject and have got a degree in the subject you're no expert. An individuals life experiences don't make them an expert because other people have different experiences. Nor does watching YouTube videos or reading a few articles or books. The thing is this sort of thing can be found in the OT section as well. People acting like their experts in politics, sociology and religion. Personally, I think politics should be banned from this forum because you can only have a good political discussion if you're a healthy, mature person. I don't think healthy, mature people get addicted to p&m.

I do have sympathy for the first kind of person. Some people come on here panicking after a relapse and I think some people even have severe mental health problems. I once came on here panicking after a relapse and wrote a post and it didn't go down well. People were harsh, one person said I sounded like a bitch and he seemed to think it was perfectly fine to say that because he was an honest person. I would recommend no one write anything on here when in a state of panic. Also, we should remember NoFap isn’t professional mental healthcare nor is it a replacement for professional mental healthcare. It says that in the rules and terms but I think some people haven't read them or have forgotten them. I think maybe it would be a good thing to have this term on every page as a reminder to people.

  8. Thanks king,

As I said I'm not proud to admit those dislikes but it was relevant to the topic here.

So that's a good insight to know those users may be panicking. I sympathise.

I've never trolled them, or sleighted. either Im as helpful as they have given scope for or I just leave it alone. Which was actually my point, that they are desperate for help but reveal next to nothing in order to recieve.

I did on one occassion politely advise this directly to one such user, but they have yet to reply. So you get my point.

Your memory I think is in closer range right now, what reply is appropriate to those people that are actually panicking, especially considering there is so many of them?

....polotics! I won't discuss with anyone, there's really not much to be gained. People talk like they're siding with football teams. Ugly and ridiculous.

  9. I don’t think they’re “pity posts” and what’s wrong if they ask questions that have already been answered really? In addiction folks like to feel connected when going through something that’s rubbish, not to mention first and foremost this is a recovery site, and the main point as well as function is to help others kick their porn addiction.

If you get something out of it brilliant, but I personally regret spending so much time on off topic when I could be helping with other folks issues when I have the time. If I can just help even one person, then I’m happy.

  10. The other thing I'm avoiding in the general threads is the 'replies".

The comments are can be so overtly sanctamonious

it's a bitter pill to swallow when their holier than thou but just like King Bashans Political commentators theyre actual maturity are not at the level of their words.

Conversely, off topic tends to have the most witty people for whom I confess are my kind of people's. It's important to look on the bright side now and then. Thanks bye.

  11. Why not religion or sociology?

  12. Nothing. I just personally dont like answering the same qiestion multiple times & for next to no bemefits given rarely do the people adhere to your adivice and do what they want anyway.

I would say that it's best to be supportive. Sometimes people just want to know they're understood and not alone. It's difficult on a forum since it can be hard to know what kind of person they are. Some people need some hard words to motivate them but for some those same hard words will discourage them. Looking through their previous posts might give an indication of what kind of person they are. If you can't figure out if hard or soft words will benefit them it's probably best to just let them know you hear them.

Religion and sociology can be difficult since they can be helpful to rebooting.

Of course, at times religious discussions can be utterly stupid. A group of guys getting mad at other because one person doesn't believe is ridiculous. Fighting over a certain religious book being the right religious book is just silly. But on the other hand, religion has helped some people in their recovery so I don't think it should be banned completely.

Sociology is similar. It can give us an understanding of how addiction affects society but then again it can bring about silly arguments.

You're actually not allowed to start religious threads in the off-topic section. People who do this are breaking the rules and making extra work for the staff. Religious groups are set up especially for religious discussions but still, people go ahead and create these kinds of threads.
