hey guys so i’ve had a rough like but a great one as well . i have a disorder and stuff but i’m coping with it fine because it is hardly noticeable it’s just a lot of mental challenges i have but on the surface I look like i normal guy . and when i mean normal i mean someone who doesn’t have any mental physical or emotional problems . anyways so im going through mania right now and this is the second time in 4 months . and she thinks i’m bipolar . but i disagree is the thing and i’m sure of it ! i always trust my gut and heart and they are hardly wrong . and my gut and heat is telling me i don’t have it and i’m just temporarily going through something . what do you guys think ? any other people have similar things ? could this be because of porn ? just curious and i’m also 26 days strong free from pmo and never again going to do it ! i have the willpower now to stop ! Also thanks guys for the replies i’m really blessed to hear from you guys !

I must admit, the title made me worry. I am not an expert and I'm not in the mood to be a conspiracy theory today but I wouldn't brush off the word of the doctor. If you say you feel good and can handle yourself then good, but I would do the tests again.

It's a difficult situation. Maybe you can overcome things. But, think about it from the professional perspective. It's EXTREMELY common for BPD to onset at your age. And, if the doc has you try some meds and they work, it will help lead to a conclusion. I've known several people who are bipolar. It's almost completely manageable with medication. Life is different, for sure.

Don't be in a hurry to brush it off. But, be responsible about meds and get other opinions? Sure. However, now you have more information than you had before. Self-medicating solutions ARE available!! So, if you try those and you see success - diet and extercise, specifically, and regimented SUNLIGHT as much as possible. Do your own research, you will see. The cool thing is this is a very well researched topic which is well-established in diagnostic terms.

So, you are or you aren't, partially defined by what treatments work. Try things. Stay observant. Write a lot. And, then read what you wrote when in a different mindset, later. Getting to know those things will change your life. And, will be vitally important in your romantic relationships, as well.

    Best of luck to you!

  6. A doctor must use a DSM 5 diagnosis manual and you will have to meet all the criteria for bipolar before they can bill an insurance company for that diagnosis. The doctor has a lot invested in determining any diagnosis. If your manic of course your gonna feel like your not. your gonna feel like your on top of the world. please think about the advice of your doctor. you can always ask about stopping medication later.

Do your gut and your heart have a degree in diagnosing mental conditions? No. The doctor has. She might see stuff from the outside that you can't from within.
That doesn't necessarily mean she's right, but I'd still not discard that diagnosis just because I don't want it to be true...

thank you man ! the only thing i’m worries about is i’m turning into a spiritual phobe and want my vibration as high as possible at all times and i’m afraid that some of these medications might lower it

"I'm fine and neither are you"

True title of a book I'll never read.
But, it's funny because "Fine" is a myth :)

How do you know everything will be fine? Are you a clairvoyant?

  14. Trusting your "gut" can be extremely dangerous, especially if it means ignoring a medical professional. I would trust a doctor over my "gut" most of the time. Gut instinct is wrong all the time.

  15. Looking at porn once a year or once in your life isn't going to give you bipolar. Looking at porn, masturbating to it and spilling your essence over it, days and weeks on end, could possibly give you bipolar disorder. Serotonin is a precious neurotransmitter, hard enough to make by the body as it is and easily fapped away. Eating disorders, anxiety, depression, OCD, all of these things are common among fapstronauts. Why? Because we have all masturbated away our vitality to some extent. We should for once and for all realize that happiness and pleasure are not the same thing. In fact happiness will be the cost if pleasure is sought out too often. Neurochemically speaking these are totally different things. The dopamine motherload you get from overmasturbating can easily irritate the human nervous system and pave the way for a variety of mental disorders.

PMO withdrawals can sometimes resemble a bipolar episode. Did you share with your doctor the extent of your PMO habits? This is something he/she should take into consideration.

That being said, if this is your second episode in 4 months you should not dismiss this very easily. Taking care of your mental health is important. The problem with mania and even hypomania is that it's very hard to notice by yourself.

This is a strong assertion. What makes you say this? Do you have mental disorders you attribute to over masturbating?

If so, how can you be certain that these disorders did not occur from a genetic predisposition or other behaviour(s)?

  18. Hi,

Definitely not saying masturbating once a year or even once a month is going to cause mental disorders, it is a different story though when people masturbate to pornography every single day for years on end.
It is a strong assertion but knowing how dopamine acts on the nervous system, absolutely not exaggerated in the case of real addiction/dependency. It's important to know what exactly dopamine is. We all talk about it, but do we understand what it is and how it works? Dopamine is basically a serotonin antagonist. It's a link in the adrenalin chain. It is a therefore a stress chemical, highly inflammatory and irritating, will excite the next neuron in 100% of cases and even cause death of nerve cells. It takes the serotonergic and gabaergic brakes off of the sympathetic nervous system while causing the brain to rely on dopamine itself (and other excitatory neurochemicals) for neurological balance at the same time. Repetition is the key word here. The nervous system can tolerate a lot. This may not be a problem if the addiction isn't too bad, but imagine someone masturbates every single day for 5 or 10 years, in that case the nervous system will literally start depending on big loads of dopamine for energy. Much of serotonergic function will be lost in this case. This is why abstinence causes withdrawal, depression and the likes since the body will not be able to cope as it will be through its mental reserves. This rewiring is very real. Chains of neurons are quite plastic and will adapt to an addiction. Logically, it will struggle to replace other receptors by dopamine receptors to accomodate an ever increasing dopamine load once tolerance is reached. You need more of the same neurotransmiter to get the same effect each time. And it doesn't take too long to get to that point of downregulation. Knowing that medications like anti-depressants specifically target serotonin, it's not hard to see that overmasturbation can cause problems because of dopamine constantly acting on the serotonin pathways, irritating and rewiring it and even wiping out some of it. Serotonin itself is not inflammatory and can't kill its own receptors. Dopamine can wipe out neurons and that's where things get dangerous. Rewiring takes place. Grey brain matter loss has been observed in sex addicts. This shows just how powerful neurotransmitters are. Without perfect to reasonable balance mental disorders for sure can develop and advanced pmo addiction without a doubt will cause these imbalances. That isn't to say that masturbation alone will be responsible for mental disorders in 100% of cases, you are right about that, but I won't shy away from claiming that under certain circumstances (meaning heavy porn consumption combined with masturbation) mental disorders can be the outcome. Addiction by definition is a psychiatric disorder. Watching porn by definition is a psychiatric disorder. Voyeurism is right there in the DSM-V, listed under paraphilia.
I did develop post acute withdrawal syndrome myself the moment I stopped masturbating to porn. I thought everything would get better from there only to be overcome with acute anxiety in the days and weeks following that. I've been interested in the why and how of it ever since.

  19. If there is a will, there is a way. Nonetheless, take a second and third opinion, if you can afford it, and don't make no hasty conclusions. Listen to what the experts say, and try and accept it without judging yourself or others. Best wishes!
