Don't except it to become easier with time

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Deleted Account, Jun 6, 2019.

  1. It's day 41, and it's not getting easier.

    It's something everyone should know, especially new members : don't expect it to be easier with time. Because PMO is a heavy walking stick that you're trying to get rid of. So you kinda have to learn to walk again. And by walking, I mean many things. It can be different from person to person, but essentially we are trying to cope with life, here. No sugar-coating, living the life head-on. If I'm sad, no PMO. If I'm stressed, no PMO. If I'm angry, fatigued or horny, no PMO.

    I have to discover the appropriate, safe and sain response for every distress I may experience in life. PMO is the WORST walking stick ever. So no more.

    It may be a while before I walk again with confidence, but I'm willing to try my best.
    One life. One will. Only one real direction.

  2. Porn is so accessible everywhere. No parental control apps or VPN is safe enough to use, and for a PMO-motivated brain, there is always a way to access porn. It's all about actively rewiring our brain so that any distress caused by life as a new and safe solution.

    Also, professional help is a must-have. I'm seen a sexologist and it changed my life !
    Discovering PMO was a thing was a breakthrough, creating an account here was a big step, and now professional help is guiding me in the right direction.

  3. Very true, I will be porn free for two years starting in September and the hardest part is to keep going, like with what you said, Pornography is everywhere we just have to deal with it. If I were to slip up now all my hard work could be put to waste.

    Thanks for the honest words to be heeded. I’ve been addicted for more than 15 years and trying to quit for close to 3 years. i always hit a wall at about 2 months. I’m exercising, dieting, meditating and seeing a therapist this go around so hoping it will stick.

  6. Waow, two years !? Congratulations ! You made it out of this hell and you keep posting here, helping other, you rock !
    And you're right, all of us have to be ever watchful not to slip up again, but if you do, and I stress the "if", all your hard work wouldn't put to waste because you have learn so much about yourself during your PMO rehab. You know your triggers, you know what parts of your life needs fixing, and you know what to do.

  7. I'm a similar situation, addict for more than 20 years and trying to quit for a bit more than 3 years. You may consider a sexologist, they are trained to deal with sex-addiction and porn-addiction. I've seen different therapists for 15 years, and only when I decided to see a sexologist did I beginning make long and lasting changes in my life, with benevolence towards myself.

    Very true indeed. I've been an addict for 14 years and i only started the battle against PMO for real last year and it's been one hell of a fight. The farthest i've been is somewhat more then 4 months clean, and you're absolutely right, it never gets any easier because you can never let your guard down, because this vice in particular can strike again when you least expect so constant vigilance is adviced. And about learning to walk again, yeah, getting rid of the walking stick is only one part of the process, replacing the old bad habits with healthy new ones is a whole different story.

  9. Yes, that's kind of what I meant with getting rid of the walking stick and learn to walk again : replacing the old bad habits and learning new, healthy ones. ;):)
    Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. :oops::D
