In my experience, people, me included, often use PMO as a way to "deal" with negative emotions like sadness, loneliness, anger, etc. However, PMO doesn't actually help with any of those. Instead, you're just pushing them away. But all of those bad emotions are still there. No thing's been fixed. So when you quit PMO, all those negative emotions come flooding back.
When you quit PMO, you need to learn to deal with those emotions the right way.

Amen to that my friend. It has been like reading my own story. I'm severely depressed and anxious right now being in "monk mode" for 5 months, but I still believe abstaining from PMO is the right thing to do. People don't realize that chemicals released during O literally have sedative and anxiolytic-like effects (read oxytocin and vasopressin studies). If you binge PMO multiple times a day it's the same thing as taking anxiolytics/sedatives in the form of pills. You're still suffering from anxiety and depression, you just self medicate the pain, while root problems stay unaddressed. Once PMO is removed from your life, you have have no choice but to address the problems head on or they become so unbearable that lead to relapse.

Fapping masks underlying anxieties and depression that you have not dealt with. When you stop fapping these issues (unpleasant as they can be) come to the surface. This allows you to experience the pain you were hiding from. Once they are dealt with you will feel much better, and ironically they will no longer be a trigger for looking at porn
