Struggled with nofap for a long time could never get past a week.

Although the main goal of nofap to me is to improve my life I feel like taking other positive steps alongside it is too hard (stepping outside of comfort zone, working on anxiety, finding more active/social hobbies). Thinking about replacing the time I would of spent PMOing on less useful past times, like video games to keep my mind occupied and distracted.

Feel like although this wont help my life in general that much, It could help me get to 90 days of nofap and from there I could reevaluate my strategy.

Anyone have thoughts on this or tried it? Did you life improve much just from nofap even if you made no other improvements?

Replacing addiction with a new healthy "obsession" is actually very good and proven strategy. Just don't replace it with bad things like social media, gaming, drinking ect. What helped me the most in early weeks of recovery was exercise. I downloaded 5K running app (8 weeks program-3 walk/run sessions per week) and finished it in 2 months. I also did 2-3 cycling and weightlifting session in between days to keep me occupied the whole week. Be careful not to overdo it (1-2 rest days is a must to give your body time to recover). I also tried to implement other changes diet, sun, sleeping, socializing more, but with only moderate success, but exercise was really the thing I did no matter what and that really saved me in the most difficult moments.

The good thing with exercise is to give you "happy hormones" very similar to the ones you get from PMO, so withdrawal symptoms and cravings during reboot won't be so bad. There is also lots of scientific research to back that claim up. Neuroscientist Dr. Rhodes says "a number of studies by other researchers has shown that exercise seems able to stimulate reward centers in the brain “that might substitute for drug cravings.”

Also recommend reading books / listening to audiobooks. This will also keep your away from the screen.

T2 Trainspotting - Be Addicted: Funny and 100 % true. Along with physical activity changing environment if possible also helps tremendously with recovery.
