    Hey guys,

The pressure is too much for me. The unecessary anxiety has led to too much pressure for me to handle. I can't sleep properly at night and too much pain in my body.

All day feeling suicidal and that much pain....

I'm going to finally see my GP tomorrow and booked an appointment tomorrow with a psychiatrist. I've literally had enough. Need to get some medication.

Anyone here had bad experiences with medication? Like I'm scared that medication may lead to further withdrawals once I come off them?

    Any ideas?

  2. What are you doing besides no pmo?, are you taking cold showers, meditating, eating healthy?.

Anti depressants enable millions of people who suffer from clinical depression to function as normal human beings.
I really don't understand this bizarre fear of "being dependent" on ADs - like it could be any worse than the hell that is depression.
Do you thing a diabetic worries about being dependent on insulin?
I have an illness which requires daily medication. It allows me to function, work and gives me the headspace I need to address the causes of my problems. If I have to take that pill every day for the rest of my life, which is probable, that doesn't bother me in the slightest. I know how things deteriorate when I'm off my meds and I never, ever want to feel like that again.
    Good luck tomorrow!

No. My experiences with antidepressants have been positive. Bear in mind that they may take a few weeks to make a difference you can feel, so do not expect an immediate lift. Coming off is no problem. The doctor will advise you to do so gradually and you will be fine. Antidepressants are not addictive (like tranquillisers). Be honest at your appointment buddy.

When I started taking antidepressants my depression became worse for the first 2 months, but later improved and I feel better now. Getting off antidepressants is not the problem, you just need to reduce the dosage gradually. Don't quit them "cold turkey" and you'll be fine.

  6. Few things to be aware of -
    1) Be direct with your psychiatrist and explain why you think pornography is the main issue
    2) Be careful with any prescriptions, antidepressants or stimulants are very easy to get hooked on especially if you are in bad shape. They can destroy your life even more than porn. You may get addicted to the drug and begin abusing it, considering you already have abuse problem. So make sure to be honest about your use of the prescription.
    3) Psychiatrist will likely re-frame your issue as depression and not porn addiction. So listen to what his/her position is.
    4) Keep in mind that Psychiatrist will keep everything you say confidential, with one exception - if you describe intention to do something that may do harm to you or someone else. Suicidal thoughts fall in to this category so be very careful how you approach this topic.
If your psychiatrist can reasonably conclude that you maybe seriously suicidal he/she has the legal right to "keep you safe" and have you placed in detention facility to get treatment. This will ruin your life as this info comes up in background checks aside from major humiliation that comes with it.
It is uncommon but keep that in mind.

  7. I got prescribed meds but I chose not to use them. See if the doctor can help psychologically. If you find it's no use talking to someone and feel suicidal, maybe just remember that you have nothing to lose and remember we're all going to die at some point. Might as well carry on breathing until then! That's what I say to myself anyway. Every day is a new beginning if you want it to be. Keep on nofap and use the panic button for inspiration.

Yeah I went to the psychiatrist and honestly believed I'd never ever be a patient of mental health.

I know I won't be on this med for life. But the shittiest part today is the psychiatrist said "Don't beat yourself up for using pornography, you are a young man and you can use it!"....

I don't care what professional opinion or anyone says on this but I'll never result to pornography or anything in my life.

I took my first SSRI tablet today of medication cause this anxiety is killing me.

Thank you my friend. I took my first tablet ever today and yeah I'm being patient. I just want this anxiety to lift. That has been killing me.
I'm gonna do whatever the psychiatrist recommends me cause this anxiety is killing me at the moment.

2 months is a long time for you to start feeling better! Today when I took it, I felt a sense of clarity when looking into the sky. Felt a little bit relief. But anxiety returned later today. See how it goes

Thank you for your advice. You are absolutely spot on! Psychiatrist actually said to me porn is not the problem.

Mikey there is a lot about that comment you quoted above which is utter horseshit, ADs are not known to be habit forming (unlike benzos), have zero potential for abuse (unlike benzos) and certainly will not "destroy your life" - quite the opposite. Untreated clinical depression can destroy your life, ADs can give you your life back.
As to if, when, how you are to come off them, cross that bridge when you come to it. Just remember a) it could take time to feel any effect (i guess you know this) and b) each different AD has a slightly different neurological action and it could be that you have to try a few different ones til you find one that works.
Can I ask what you have been prescribed?

  13. Meds aren't the answer, maybe scientifically for the short term but living the rest of your life on meds isn't healthy man. Perhaps anxiety doesn't 'return' but the hard wired connections in your brain lead to feelings of anxiety. Best to catch yourself thinking such thoughts and give yourself no more than 5 seconds thinking about something negative.

Actually it took me about 6 months to feel better. The first two months it was getting worse despite I was taking medication. If you take SSRI's I really doubt one pill can make you feel different. It looks more like a "placebo effect" for me. Be prepared that it might take some time until you will feel positive effect and temporary you can feel worse.

  15. I just wanted to make it clear that you should exercise some degree of self awareness about what you tell your Psychiatrist, unfortunately they are forced to become lie detectors and by nature extremely suspicious, of anything you say to them.
Mainly because their job is to make sure you are not trying to gain access to drugs without good reason and once you have a prescription they need to make sure you are not abusing the dug.

This forces them in to a frame of mind where they constantly judge how honest you are and constantly set traps for consistency in what you are saying. In other words they are by nature suspicious and that is good.

Psychiatrist will not see porn addiction as root problem, but they will recognize it as problem if it affects your life negatively. There is no treatment for porn addiction as as there is no treatment for smoking per say, he can only suggest you seek support group if you want to change that behavior, while he/she can help you find why you seek out this behavior and try to address the core issue. From medical point of view, addiction is a result of specific lifestyle, once lifestyle is changed addictive behaviors becomes much easier for person to tackle.

Hey man. I'm doing mindfulness 30 mins twice a day, sleeping on time and waking up same time every day, having 8 hrs sleep, drinking 2 to 3 litres of water, taking fluoxetine 1 tablet every morning, studying fulltime, working fulltime. writing down my daily tasks and consciously thinking of being in public and trying to work on my anxiety

Yeah I didn't even want to take meds. I even told the psychiatrist that. but she said your anxiety is getting beyond controllable. so that's why I've started taking it. I'm gonna get off it as soon as possible. But in the short term I think I need it
