Porn is not the problem

Discussion in 'Porn Addiction' started by Deleted Account, Mar 31, 2019.

  1. I realized something recently, or more like I finally accepted it, porn is not your problem but a side effect. For me I turned to porn to escape my sad life, I was bullied, spat on, treated like trash, and porn was there to help me feel happy, accepted. In reality your mindset is the real problem, the self destructive thoughts and beliefs, when you say and believe things such as you are unworthy or no one likes you, you have no confidence, no self worth. I want every one to take a look at there life, how do you talk about yourself, what do you believe about yourself?, until you start thinking like a champion you will never be porn free, until you start loving yourself and appreciating yourself you will never be free. Your words become flesh, what words are you speaking?.

Sounds like you've moved on into the next evolutionary stage of your recovery, so congratulations on that! I would word it a little differently, because I think that porn is a problem. However, porn isn't the root of the problem (that's just the wording I would use). For me, porn was just the tip of the iceberg. The root of my problem was avoidance of pain, numbing / avoiding my negative memories, and feeling ashamed of who I was. Porn was just the way that I coped with those problems.

The hardest part of recovery for me hasn't been giving up porn. The hardest part has been confronting (and ultimately learning to love) myself for who I really am.

Such a wise insight. I use porn to escape from the negative feelings I have about myself. If I start to feel good about myself again then I won't need porn to fill in that empty space.

    Thanks for sharing.

Disagree, porn is a disease and we must treat it

  5. I agree with that but to call a side effect is not right. It's more of a consequence and becomes a reason later on in your life

Did you even actually read the thread, or just the title of the post?

It's all true, we only try to escape reality with it. Whenever you are thinking about porn... something in your life is not in balance. You either need to do something you don't want to, or do not put in much effort to make it better. You made my freaking day bro, love to you all.

Probably the implication of this would be that we can fight the PMO addiction INDIRECTLY. For example a person who feels bad about being unemployed and uses PMO for comfort might drastically reduce their PMO addiction by finding a job. (I know that finding a job isn't usually easy of course. That is only an example.)

Hey man; I was bullied when I was young too, and I too turned to porn to escape my reality and make myself feel happy. I understand that porn isn't the problem and its just the product of a free market media industry trying to make money, but think, does the benefits of having porn around, outweigh the social costs to sustain it? And honestly, what are the benefits of porn aside from making money?

Porn is a tool we used to escape our problems via temporary physical satisfcation. Almost every addict here has underlying issues. That being said, we lost our privilege to watch porn without having to bear the grievous consequences it might have on our lives the moment we allowed ourselves to go unchecked and abuse it instead of solving our problems. It is a part of the problem, but the core problems are the ones we use porn to escape from.

Amen I came to that realization as well. Porn masturbating is all a symptom of deeper issues. Mine happened to be low blood sugar caused by not eating healthy. But I still want accountability because I fall occasionally and I just feel a lot better about it if I have someone to open up to.
