    Hello,

I'm not one of those people who has no idea what they're doing with nutrition and training - I am knowledgeable and I keep a healthy diet and only eat the amount of calories required.

However, during my Nofap journey, I realized that I suddenly have been putting on weight even though nothing has changed in my diet. And what's puzzling is that the fat gain is concentrated mainly on the arse and legs. (Before I used to have fat gain mainly on belly)

Does anyone know of any scientific explanation regarding this?

  2. Were you different weight when it was concentrated on a belly than you are now? Fat just does not randomly change place where it is going. Unless you keep gaining/losing weight, in which case at different weight ranges it will go primary to different places. Usually for men it goes to belly first then as you gain more weight it starts going to other places as well. While for females it's other way around, it goes to leg area first and as she gains weight more and more it eventually starts adding up more at belly region.

As for weight gain during nofap, I notice it too after long streak. Body weight is regulated by hormones just as much, if not even more, as it is by calorie consumption. We know that nofap does have an impact on hormonal system. But we do not know potentially to what extent. So maybe nofap does something to hormone balance which may end up in some side effects? That would make sense to me.

Also another theory would be that it takes energy to regenerate after sexual exhaustion. So when we stop depleting ourselves through excessive ejaculations and so on body has some spare energy left? That would also make sense to me. I don't know, just theorizing here.

  3. Are you stressed, I heard you can gain or lose weight because of too much stress

What type of diet are you following? What does a healthy diet mean to you?

One possibility is that you have replaced one addiction with another, so substituting fapping for reward eating to replace the dopamine fix.

  5. It isn't how much you eat that matters, it's what you eat that matters...

Basically a healthy diet consists of foods that are only found in nature. If humans processed it, it will cause weight gain.

A diet high in protein is the key to weight/fat loss. Food intolerance is a bigger problem than you think and most processed foods can cause it. Gluten is a big offender, if you can't digest grains your system is going to shut down as a protective mechanism and you aren't going to lose the weight. Another big offender is dairy. Full of estrogen and antibiotics. Excess estrogen and fat feed off each other.
If you experience any bloating after meals you probably have some sort of intolerance.

The thing is when you eat the right foods (high in protein) you are not going to be hungry but still lose the weight. You'll have to eliminate all of the tasty stuff but in the end it's totally worth it as being lean is a big reward. It's a better reward than the dopamine rush addictive foods can cause. You'll be more attractive and thus have more self confidence.

I agree with you, but disagree with a diet high in protein. Instead a diet higher in unprocessed carbohydrates has much more science backing it up, it's basically called a whole food plant based diet. The high protein diet is similar to the previous/failed Atkins diet, Dr. Atkins himself had a history of heart attack, heart failure, and high blood pressure. The best example you can follow are populations seen today classified as the Blue Zones, they are the longest/healthiest living people on Earth and all are following a whole food plant based diet.

I also disagree with gluten being an offender, all the Blue Zones eat gluten. Gluten sensitivity is very rare (Celiac's disease is 1% of the population), it's the pesticides they use that are causing the gut problems.

    Your theories make sense.

When I first noticed the shift of fat concentration, I was x months into NoFap and also x months into an injury lay off which meant I was only training once a week (legs only, as upper body work I couldn't do due to the injury). The increased mass on the arse is defintley fat, btw; and not an increased booty size due to the squatting! loool

Because the NoFap and injury/change of training habit happened coincidentally, I was confused which one, if any, of them was the cause of this change of fat concentration.

The lack of sexual action is possibly another reason.

    Thanks for your input.

Yes, I've been stressed on and off for pretty much 8 years now, and very stressed, on and off, for the last three years.

I hate my job, you see. (I'm trying to change it.) Obviously, I also hate my life.

My diet is about 95-98% healthy. It's typically this:

7:00 - Whey protein drink plus Oats.

12:00 - Home made chicken sandwich with brown bread. An apple, too.

    15:30 - 16 - Tuna sandwich in brown bread.

19:00-19:30 - Brown rice with home made chicken/salmon. An apple.

20-21:00 - Mix of fruits, mainly oranges, pineapples, kiwis, grapes, berrys, watermelon and strawberry. Later on, a little bit of nuts; mainly walnuts and almonds.

    10-11:00 - Whey protein drink.

I have ketchup or yogurt with my meals, but they're not that unhealthy, plus it's in small quantities.

Unfortunately, for whatever reason (although I know who the main suspects are!!), I am not enjoying food that much anymore; some bites just feel quite bland.

This is the problem, most people think they are eating healthy but aren't...
Whey protein comes from milk, which has estrogen/antibiotics.
Chicken has a bunch of saturated fat and cholesterol and also has trans fat.
Tuna is a high mercury fish.
Ketchup is just processed sugar or corn syrup.
    Yogurt, again comes from milk.

The problem is everyone thinks there is some crazy need for getting enough protein, when in fact you can get enough just from plants. Nowadays we eat more protein than a mountain lion does, don't people think that's crazy? According to your log you're having animal protein 5x/day, again not even carnivores in the wild eat protein that frequently.

  11. Ah, what is your job? I'm sorry you hate your life, mann :/. You gotta work on your stress, stress can do a lot of things to you.

Man, that sounds shit! However, it can't be all bad.... I haven't had a sick day off work for the last 13 years now! So I must doing something right.

What do I suggest I do then, if my goal is to build muscle and to be healthy? If I have to switch to vegan protein diet, then why not, as I believe it's cheaper! But I just need to know if this would be sufficient for mass and strength building? I don't believe the protein sources of plants, nuts, etc actually contain the desired type of protein, which is that of the protein that contains all 20 essential amino acids.

You must be lucky not to have been sick for 1 day in 13 years!
Actually, plant proteins are complete proteins and have all essential amino acids. Also, look at the great apes/horses/rhinos/etc. They all have massive muscles and basically only eat plants. Only 9 amino acids are essential (our bodies cannot make), there are 20 total and your body can make most of them, but plants do have all of them.
You don't need to become vegan, but have animal proteins MUCH less often, like 1-2x per week.
Have more plant proteins in general like beans/quinoa/lentils.
I don't recommend protein powders, but they do have vegan protein powders if you HAVE to take something.

    Update:

My arse just gets fatter and fatter now!

My arse has been getting a little bit fatter by the day! Roughly at midway, I start feeling my arse getting heavier and then when I look in the mirror... .boom! It looks fatter! And this stays until the following day... where then it repeats itself by putting on another small layer of fat around my arse again! Fatter and fatter by the day!! WTF??!

What the hell is going on? This is not the traditional fat gaining process, as for the normal fat gaining process you notice the difference the following morning upon waking up - my fat gains actually happens during the day! (it's not water weight or anything, it's pure fat on arse!)

This is really so strange - I don't know if this is down to the stress or down to the NoFap journey.

If it is for the NoFap journey.... then what can I do?? I need to recover my brain but I also don't want to get a huge arse as it's unlikely to make me attractive to women!!! :( I'm just stuck in a hopeless catch 22 situation - sums up my fucking life!!

    Anyone with suggestions??

I do once a week, I can't do 3 times a week as I have a shoulder injury, and so it's just legs for me (the weight gain is fat, not muscle).

if its fat, try cardio instead of weightlifting, it burns more calories. If that doesn't work, you're either not working out hard enough or youre eating to much, assuming you don't have a health issue. Good luck man.

Hard to tell because we dont know how much you weigh and your height, but drinking protein drinks everyday and working out just once a week is probably why youre getting fat. If youre eating like youre bulking but arent doing the exercises for muscle growth, all those extra calories from those drinks are gonna be turned into fat.

Maybe cut out the protein until you start working out for muscle growth and diet for a caloric deficit to lose that fat.

I defintley work hard enough! I just come back from the gym having done legs and back workouts!

I eat at calories maintenance and add an extra 300 calories on workout days. So I dont think this is the traditional fat gain.

I think my hormone system is fucked up! (I also no longer experience a big 'bump' in the gym anymore).
