Why do people count their not-fapping days

Discussion in 'Self Improvement' started by Deleted Account, Jan 23, 2019.

  1. There are seven days in a week. If you fap three times a day, that would be 21 in a week. What's the point of counting the 'nofap days' if you can just lower those numbers. I mean that three could be down to only one or two. From once a day to five times a week. From that you could do it once a week. I mean this could be more logical than dropping PMO all at once. I am not promoting PMO guys, what do you think? Sorry my english is bad.

  2. Counting day is motivating. It's also faster healing to drop it all at once. And it's also easier to drop it all at once. It's way harder to stay away from something if we have a constant tease of it. Small dosage will just make me crave more. It's like once I start it's harder to stop, so it's better not to start at all.

  3. Tell a heroin addict to just use less. That'll work!

I count days because if I just tried to PMO less it wouldn't work for me and I would never quit. Only one way to get porn out of my life forever and it's to get porn out of my life forever.

  4. For some people counters simply work, for other people they dont.

Im not using PMO tracker, i am oriented towards PMO spreadsheet, as it gives me cleaner, more direct picture of my progress.

Counters are making your progress visible. For some people it could be a strong motivator.

  6. I like my counter, not that I wholly depend upon it, yet, it still works in a massive manner for me. For somebody, it may not work! So, I think that if your method works, more power to you. Let's get clean and strong everyday.

Ok I already apologize my bad english (last time when I wroted my own thoughts in English was like 5 years ago in primary school ":D"). But wanted or not, here we go:

I do the same thing than you. I don't mark NoFap days, I only mark days when I fap.
I think that there is a bit difference between 2 orgasms and 100 orgasms in month, what i did earlier before that NoFap-thing. And when I relapse and get depressed again, i can still see the big difference between before and after i started NoFap.

Setting goals is an unwise practice. What will you do once your week is over, go ham back on your habits? Or 2 days, or a month, or a year. The point is to push ourselves, abstain for as long as we can. And you try to understand yourself, and your body. You count days, and see what works for you, and what makes it harder.
The process of addiction rewires our brains, it enforces certain connections, just lime any strong memory, or a well practiced habit. Do you remember what you had for lunch 18 weeks ago? Neither do I. Try doing something you did a lot as a kid but stopped for years. Your skill is faded, but most likely you can get most of it back within obe hour, because highly used connections in our brains are the slowest to fade. And reuse will strengthen them a whole lot. PMO has become like hand writing for us, it has a strong imprint in our heads. If we only lower our ...usage, those brain pathways don't have time to fade.

Cause its one fking day at a time to become who you always wanted to be.

  10. If we remove porn it'll be easier. You are right. I think MO would be the last to deal with. Drop the porn first.

  11. What my thought is, people get caught too much on numbers, and most of them forgot that, the journey is what matters, it is not about the benefits or future things. Maybe counting their fap days or their fap per week would make it stay on their mind rather than just playing with everyone's nofap numbers. Having a counter is good, but what do you think guys?

If I follow the days, it makes for me harder as I receive urge and I think at myself :"I could reward myself!". Then when you don't check the days and be at yourself :"I must stop fully and I will not look at the days!" - as when you try to follow everyday when you quit, it reminds you about addiction and you can't really just move on from it, different people different experience ;D

  13. I like the counter because it's motivating. Plus if I get an urge my go to thought is "do you really want to give up after all the hard work you just put in?" I'm at day sixty something of no porn and MB. I feel awesome. I don't want to lose that.

  14. While it is not a popular option it is an option.

Another way to look at it is if you do stop cold and start counting days. If you have slips and relapses, don't stress too much about them but get back on the horse and try again. Rather than counting the longest streak, measure your average over time. In a week or 2 weeks span how many times did you pmo. Measure that against the next 2 week span, are your numbers better or worse, what does the trend line look like?

Another way would be to stop cold then if you get the urge just MO without P and focus on getting P out of your life as a start.

There are many ways, not all of them work for everyone. You have to find what works for you. If you do decided to reduce instead of stopping be sure to take an honest look at your progress. Fighting this is difficult and the mind will lie to you alot to get what it wants. It's important to understand that and to recognize it.

    Good luck

  15. Everyone is different so. Hahaha. My only concern is people might get attached too much on the numbers and forget the reason why they are doing it. Anyway, I am done here.
