  6. My favourites that are proper English phrases? I prefer Latin, but they're translatable:
    Make haste slowly.
    Action, not words.
    Physician, heal thyself.

    I like this lyric from a song;

Now you can put a name to it,
You must lay claim to it.

You'll have time to regret it,
If you don't go and get it.

You won't have much to talk about,
If you don't go on walkabout.

Don't think you won't mind it,
If you don't try and find it.

No-one said you must be good as gold,
    It's what you haven't done t
    hat matters when you're old.

From Cackaboom, by the late and ever so great Ian Dury. On the Mr Lovepants album, his final throw of the dice.

"急がば回れ(isogaba maware)-Make haste slowly." is well known in my country! I think this phrase is meaningful for our life.
And "Action, not words." is good phrase too! However, last phrase "Physician, heal thyself." is limited phrase, isn't it? or Does this phrase means that you should respect physician? Sorry, I have a little knowledge about the Bible.

    Thank you very much!:)
I read this lyric again and again.
I know the each words meaning, but it is difficult for me to understand the real feelings and real meaning which this lyric claim. I have to study more and more.

"Rinse the cups." means washing the dishes, doesn't it? Why is it your motto or favorite phrases?

It seems this phrase has very deeply meaning. Some Japanese people consider real meaning which this phrase has in their blog. I have never seen BIG LEBOWSKI, so if I have a chance, I would like to see it.

It may be quite dense language for a non native British English speaker.
It basically means; "Don't hesitate, follow your dreams, or you will regret it when you're older"
I suppose it could be seen as Ian Dury's version of the Latin motto "Carpe Diem"* which translates as "Seize the day!".

*As opposed to "Carp Diem" which means "Sieze the fish"**
**No it doesn't. Sorry, my bad sense of humour
