What is the point of abstaining from MO?

I know that the website say that it is for rebooting but why? Most times MO helps me stop myself from PMOing. Is there a reason I'm not seeing, besides anything religious?

  2. MO delays the rebooting process, because you're still flooding your brain with dopamine. The rebooting process is essentially like scrubbing your frontal lobe clean with steel wool, however it's more like scrubbing your frontal lobe clean with a wet rag if you are just cutting out P.

Cut out all PMO and new neural pathways will form, and the old ones that were wired to rationalize PMO will deteriorate.

  6. From my experience, before I fell into this trap. I used to look at some porn, not as deep as others but I was able to have sex no problem. Once I start the M & O it all went down hill very fast.

Hi, you find lots of detailed info here too:

Good luck on your reboot ! :)

  8. M will generally speaking continue the pattern of self involved sex, which keeps us isolated, which continues the cycle.

MO can also cause loss of sensitivity (I noticed a decline in sensitivity when I broke my 17-day streak with MO), and it also simply drains your energy. Semen also contains a bunch of hormones, including antidepressant compounds, so you're losing out on the benefits if you're ejaculating too often. It also desensitizes the reward center in your brain, making life in general seem duller. Too much can cause anhedonia! Essentially, too much MO leads to depression. It's probably best to cut out MO entirely (that's what I'm trying to do), and just have release via sex and wet dreams. Sex can cause problems if overindulged, too!

  10. Also a lot of people here dealing with dysfunction from MO too much and that can not be fixed while still doing it.

MO actually makes you way more likely to watch porn.

MO also expands beyond the boundaries of a healthy, long term relationship, or a marriage. What I mean by this is MO can lead to fantasising over other people either in an unhealthy way, or people you don’t want to. It also increases a lot of people’s reliance on watching porn to get a higher, or bigger O.

MO can trigger P in some people, so it's safe(r) to abstain from it for at least a while.

Personally, I'm not that much affected by MO. I once quit porn for 3 months and relapsed not because of MO but because I thought I would be able to watch porn in moderation. Haha. How wrong I was :)

I disagree with people claiming that masturbation and sex is unhealthy as a general rule (reminds me of the 1950s, when the Church was still in charge here in Europe). It might be for some people, like classic sex addicts, but I'm not one of them.

The only reason MO keeps you from porn is because the brain still got part of what it wants. You're still just feeding the neural pathways in your brain, you're still giving it the dopamine rush it wants. The addiction isn't just porn, is all 3. Its really just another version of a sex addiction. If we all had the ability to have sex anytime we wanted and as much as we wanted then that would be the addiction. PMO is just a result of that not being possible.

If your intention isn't to heal and repair your mind from all the damage thats been done to it then you'd be better of just stopping P and thats it. Just continue on with MO whenever you want it, don't just fight it sometimes but then do it other times. No need to deal with the pain and struggle if you don't get anything from it.

What if you have severe PIED? Then just stop all three and introduced MO to sensation back when sensation returns?

Depends on the person. A lot of people are addicted to M but don't think they are because "its normal". If you are one of those people then I'd stay away from M as much as possible.

Either way you should avoid it so your dopamine receptors can heal from all the damage that's been done over the years.

If staying away from M is hard then you're probably addicted. If its not at all then you're fine but still should wait so shit can heal 1st.

Makes a lot of sense. Thanks. I'll abstain from all three then until sensation returns and bring back MO.
