Any advice on how to improve reaction time/reflexes for sports?

So, I think the title sums it up fairly well, but I will give a brief explanation as to why I'm asking. I was never any good at sports throughout school, and the fact that I was excluded from sports games for that reason only seemed to make me feel further behind. I would like to change that now.

I'm sure it doesn't help that I've subjected myself to years of late nights due to porn and edging, but I just feel so slow. I hope some of that will go away as I gain more energy from the lack of PMO, but I would like to work on it anyway. I started a martial arts class a few months ago with a friend, and I just find that although most of the people there haven't been doing it long, their coordination is way better, they learn moves quicker and they can react faster.

Other than practice, is there any more specific advice anyone could give?

Yoga! Wayne Gretzky practiced yoga and credited it with adding to his dexterity, focus, and balance.

If you're feeling really adventurous, you could take some dance classes too.

When you are doing martial arts, for example boxing or kick boxing, you develop a muscle memory. Constantly practicing will teach you to routinely use your muscle memory. You simply perform certain movements without thinking about it.

If that's what you mean, then you just have to keep practicing.

The problem for me is more about the time it takes me to react to someone throwing a punch at me, or a ball being thrown at me. I mean, yes, I have issues with my coordinaion which I think I can improve, but it makes most sports difficult when your response to stimulus is snail paced.

I can practice the moves well enough, but I want to get better at reacting quicker to my surroundings if you like.

I think I will try yoga though. I could do with some extra bendability :)

Other options if Yoga doesn't suit you are Tai Chi (Taiji Quan), Qigong, or if you are feeling brave Ballet. For instance NFL hall of famer Lynn Swann trained ballet for a bit

Grendel this is EXACTLY what I've been thinking about all day!

I've heard celibacy can increase things like hand-eye coordination.

I want to be that guy who can catch really fast throws with any ball one handed! (you know those guys lol)

There's a guy just like this at work. He's younger than me but always teaching me how to do this and that (he's a quick witted kid).

I've always been pretty good at calisthenics and running but I want to be the guy with the mad skills :)!!!

One common suggestion for improving hand-eye coordination is juggling.

Thanks guys. I've been scouting the house for anything I can juggle with, but I guess I'm just gonna have to get some tennis balls or something.

I've never heard of Qigong, but it looks pretty cool.
