But man, I really admire those people who are actually earning money from it though (there is a fortnight player that goes by the name of Ninja who earns millions just by streaming and playing this game that is insane!)

The popularity would suggest that it is, but like all games, whether you like it or not is subjective. It's free, so maybe give it a go and find out.
