Isn't it so true that every action we take begins with a thought, then dwelling on that thought until we begin to entertain it through "deliberately risky behavior". If we can master our thoughts by pushing out the ones we do not want then, in theory, we will never even begin that "deliberately risky behavior" that eventually will lead to actions that we don't want to happen.

Don't give life to those thoughts. Push them out and replace them with something you really want there, your true goals and ambitions. Before you become who you want to be you need to act, before you act you need to think. Control what you think and become who you want to be.

On a more serious note, I find meditation invaluable to putting what you describe in the first post into actual practice. It's much easier to talk about than DO, and I find that meditation is a tool that allows me to find peace with my thoughts, rather than battling them.

So true, meditation is way more difficult that it seems. I thinks that's part of the reason more people don't do it. Controlling thought is probably the most difficult thing there is, and meditation is great practice.

To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And, at the same time, unreal. Fiction and fact and everything in between, plus some things I can't remember, all rolled into one big "thing." This is truth, to me. - Jack Handy

Yes it is difficult, but the prize at the end is more than worth it. That is if you are looking for a prize, some take meditation even deeper and seek to go beyond so to speak. Sometimes sitting still or doing something as simple as watching your breath doesn't seem attractive or appealing to people. As if being swept up in an endless torrent of thoughts and emotions all day everyday is somehow more appealing lol.

I was just glancing over Singed's most recent journal entry. I love his 'power entries', they can be enlightening sometimes. He was talking about not writing so much in his own journal, or in anyone else's journal for that matter, rather he was thinking of focusing on things outside this forum, at least that's how I interpreted some of what he was saying.

I find myself feeling the same way. I wanted to impose a time limit on myself for this site, like 30 minutes a day Monday - Friday I would allocate for using this forum. I still have yet to accomplish sticking to this goal, but this coming week I hope to actually follow through with it. I would probably spend like 5 minutes in my journal, and the other 25 minutes for the journals that I'm subscribed to and various forum sections, although I get instant email notifications on my phone for my journal subscriptions. I figure that if an urge can hit at any moment, that getting someone's most recent journal entry at any moment is a good training tool to keep me focused on progress at NoFap.

Singed's avatar inspired me to post the following by Jack Handey, it's almost 5 minutes long, enjoy!

Here's a deep thought I just read from the daily entry on The James Allen Free Library:

"A man does not live until he begins to discipline himself ; he merely exists.

With the practice of self-discipline a man begins to live.
    "

How awesome and deep is that??! Yet it sounds so simple!

And here's what Jack has to say for today:

Deep thought of the day by James Allen:

    November Twenty-Fifth.

A MAN (or woman, remember this was written in the early 1900's!) begins to discipline himself by controlling those passions which have hitherto controlled him ; he resists temptation, and guards himself against all those tendencies to selfish gratifications which are so easy and natural, and which have formerly dominated him. He brings his appetite into subjection, and begins to eat as a reasonable and responsible being, practising moderation and thoughtfulness in the selection of his food, with the object of making his body a pure instrument through which he may live and act as becomes a man, and no longer degrading that body by pandering to gustatory pleasure. He puts a check upon his tongue, his temper, and, in fact, his every animal desire and tendency.

And what would this thread be without another deep thought by Jack Handey:

Nice to see that I provided a little spark of inspiration. Thanks. I used to use a counter for "self-temptation." I even saw a couple of other users adopt similar ideas. But for me, that mindset turned out to have some unforeseen shortcomings, so I switched to the stricter "risky behavior" one.

Heh, I think "power entries" is rather generous. I think of them more like emotional diarrhea: the feels just won't stop coming out.

Anyway, I'm enjoying the Jack Handey, but I probably need more Stuart Smalley:
