    Hi everyone,
I have been thinking about subscribing for a very long time.

All I want to say is that porn gradually destroyed my confidence and motivation eventually turning me into a very depressed person, different from who I used to be.
It all started many years ago. Some times I tried quitting it on my own but failed every single time, and that is probably why I ended up being a very insecure person, cause I couldn't control my urges and felt deeply ashamed because of it.

Over time I quit many of the activities that would help me relieve stress like sport and hobbies. Things that I used to like suddenly lost al their appeal to me, and the situation worsened. Being at the university there are those days when I can hardly find the motivation to study, even though my grades aren't half bad.
But studying can be very stressful and that leads to masturbation and smoking.

All I want is to find it in me to say no to masturbation, because right now It feels like it has become something I need to do.
To be honest I also tried to quit smoking many times but I feel like I have to quit both at the same time or else I will end up in those bad habits of mine.

I hope my English is not too rusted (studying it was one of those hobbies that I mentioned before).

    Hi @mark123456789000,
Welcome to the forum. People here are very supportive.
I recommend you to read success stories in this forum. The story contains techniques that successful people have already adopted and proved in their life for staying on nofap. You could find one or more which is suitable for you.
Here is one story which provides three keys to stop fapping. This is a YouTube vid explaining how fap and nofap work and affect our life.

I also suggest you to quit smoking at the same time as you want to stop fapping. Trying to stop other bad habits can help you stay on nofap. People who addict to something are usually using it as an escape from stress, responsibility and so on. It becomes a lifestyle and resolution, which is bad, when you face difficulties. Every time you do the bad habit, you actually reinforce it into your brain and develop a deeper and deeper dependence on it. It will become harder to quit.

    Nofap benefits:
more confidence, more respects from others, more energy, more strength and so on.

My English is basic and I hope I didn't make you confused.
    Let's stay stronger together.
    Best Wishes!

Welcome. Glad you found the website. HERE are some things helping me.

  5. Hi. Welcome to forum!

Make sure you crate a personal journal thread in Reboot Logs section and blog there on a regular basis. As well as just generally be active participant in various forum discussions. I recommend this to everybody new here because it's the major thing that helped me when I was first starting. Just lurking on forums, reading and learning is great. But it usually is so much more powerful to engage. It helps to keep us motivated and accountable when we are active part of community. And keeps this in front of our minds so we don't forget about importance of it and slip away in our old habits. Sharing is also therapeutic. This is a major reason why AA meetings work so good. But that was developed before internet era. These days we can get most of the same benefits online through communities like this. So don't underestimate the power of active participation.

I would also like to suggest you to look into mindfulness meditation. It has helped me personally tremendously to learn how to deal with urges. It takes a while to get good at it and notice results, so you need to be consistent with it, but once you do it's very powerful. It has been used by sages for thousands of years to deal with various issues of the mind. And in recent decades the science is also catching up to what ancient sages have know for centuries. Meditation these days are widely used as very effective tool by psychologists for treating addiction and by neurologists for supporting recovery of the brain. It is a great exercise for the brain the same way as jogging is great exercise for the body. Check out this Ted talk, it gives a good idea of what's it about when it comes to philosophy. As far as practical side of it there is this awesome smartphone app called Headspace for guided meditations to get you started.

Wish you lot's of strength and success in your reboot journey!
