Total abstinence, or fapping with a schedule (once a week or something)?

    Hello everyone,

    A bit about me first-

    -23 years old
    -meaningless life (never gf, very few friends, poor academics, fear of everything)
    -might as well say I have lived, but never been alive at all

    Now I have attempted to change my life in many ways-

    -Started exercising, and actually managed to lose quite a bit of weight (but still far from fit)
    -Started talking to girls and people more in general
    -Started making better attempts for studying/working
    -Started being more positive about life in general

    Now about nofap-

    I discovered nofap sometime around 2014-15 (I think).
    Never really tried it seriously till January 2018, when I first went without fap for some 38-40 days. I have to admit I did feel some difference in my life.

    I have to do this again. From what I have read in the forums, nofap seems to have helped many people improve their lives.

    If I cant improve my life now, I might as well die. It will be better than wasting my time like this, and hence I decided to join nofap.

    I will update my progress every week (as far as possible).

    Sorry if I have made any mistakes in my english, it isnt my first language.

    Also, any advice will be greatly appreciated :)

  2. Hey @positivefunction ,

    First and very importantly, suicidal thoughts should be taken seriously. Even if it's just suicidal fantasy - please promise that you will not hurt yourself. It's not worth it. Many people who attempt suicide end up with life long damage. Perhaps brain damage or a physical problem.

    About 3% of the people who jump off the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco live. All over them - every single one - says the instant they jumped they regretted it. The other 97% most likely regretted it also, but didn't live to tell us.

    As to help with NoFap - Welcome to NoFap! You are in the right place.

    I'm just a regular member on here, so take what I say as my experience. I found that I needed to:

    1. Learn the NoFap program.

    2. Get involved with the community.

    The best resource I found was the “Getting Started with NoFap” guide. It is on the NoFap homepage and you can download it for free from this link https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/new-users-list-of-rebooting-resources.50878/

    Then, watch this video:

    It is really good and explains so much about how the blasting of porn images into the brain in high definition on high speed internet while slamming porn sounds into the ears with headphones can literally change the way your brain demands sexual stimulation.

    The video explains it better than I can.

    Also, a great page is https://www.nofap.com/forum/index.php?threads/new-users-list-of-rebooting-resources.50878/ my experience is that by reading every link and watching every video, I learned so much.

    Then, I got involved with the community. I'm not anyone special on here, I don't have any magic powers. But, I can say hello to new members, post my journal entries, remember to “like” peoples posts, and offer my experience, strength and hope where appropriate.

    Looking forward to seeing you around on the forums,

    --> L

    PS - I Think of pmo like a wolf. When I stay near the center of the group and stay with the winners, the wolf has a more difficult time finding me. But, if I stop working at NoFap and stray near the edges of the community, then the wolf can pick me off.

  3. One of the ways I got involved with the fellowship was by reading some really great journals. Reading other's stories with their victories and even defeats is a big part of my program.

    I've included journals from all age groups, spiritual members, religious members, secular members, male and female. You should find journals that help. If not, look around, there are hundreds of others from which to choose. When I say "it works if you work it", reading journals is part of that work.

    Once you open a journal, click "Watch Thread" in the upper right of the page to get alerts when new posts are made. Here are just a few:

    There are many more, and you can discover them on your own. But, these are great places to start.

    This is a work in progress. So, if a journal has changed or is no longer active, look around there are some amazing journals on here.

    --> L

    PS - Starting a journal also helped me a great deal.

    The journals are listed by age groups on the forum start page.

    Most members run one journal only. That way both the member and others can go back and look at their journey at a later time.

    Hope to read your journal soon. Also, in your personal details you can put a link to your journal. Then, appears under your avatar.

  4. For me NoFap is 1/2 program & 1/2 fellowship.

    Click on these people and post a "hello" on their profiles.

    I've found that the bricks that hold this community together are cemented with the support of the members of the fellowship.

    @I_can_and_I_will
    @JackMcWaffles
    @Mr.Imperfect
    @Inqonyama
    @Toughboy
    @romlel

    @Chriss27
    @ludwig525
    @hoping_cannon
    @SteelshoT
    @reystronaut
    @2525

    Look at with whom they exchange messages and you will find more profiles.

    So, if you would have found more profiles yourself, why suggest these particular ones as a start? Those relationships started with just saying hello. So, my ESH is that saying hello has kept the fellowship alive for myself.

    Looking forward to your success and in seeing you say hello on these profiles,

    --> L

    Hello @positivefunction and Welcome to nofap! Thank you for sharing your story it is as important as anyone else's here. I agree with everything @StopTheMusic has written and will add that he is a perfect example of the support you will find here. The first thing I will say is you've got to forgive yourself for being human, everyone has slipped up at some time or other and the world is no better without you in it. You've made a good start by coming back and one of the best ways to resist the urges you have is to spend time here instead of on anything which might cause you to be triggered. at the top of this page is a panic button which will share positive messages to stay on track. Take a cold shower go for a walk write in your journal or greet others keeping busy is key, and realize your feelings of low self esteem come from the act of pmo making you feel that way. If this place and its messages still aren't helping seek out a suicide prevention hotline and or possibly some medical or therapeutic help because there may be something else going on. Reach out and get whatever you help you need to realize life is worth living. I hope you make peace with yourself and get yourself back on track soon.

    First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to share all that information with me :))

    I'm not really suicidal, just very very disappointed with myself thats all :((

    I currently have some exams going on, so I may not be around much. But once thats done, I'll try to contribute more.

    And I will also message those people you mentioned :)

    Thank you very much :)
