Guys, I've just found a software called IncognitoGone which can permanently disable private browsing mode from both Internet Explorer and Chrome! I installed it and within 2 minutes it had removed all traces of private browsing capability! I'd been trying to figure out a way to do this for a while already, but I couldn't find any successful solution until now.

I've had the habit of using private browsing mode for most of my web browsing for years now. Even when I'm just shopping or reading news I'd still choose private browsing. Quite often when I ended up watching P it wasn't that I was really out looking for it but rather I'd stumble on some link or thumbnail and off I go clicking one link after another till I'm watching all out P. Well now that I don't have the option of private mode I feel like I won't be as likely to 'stumble' onto P. It just like places another barricade in my way where I'll need to stop and think about possible the ramifications; which is what we most tend not to think about when we're tempted.

Anyway just thought I'd share this in case you guys are interested.

That's awesome!! I re-set my DNS server numbers to a family friendly code. Now I can't access sexually suggestive or pornographic sites. I type in free xxx porn and I get Your search - free xxx porno - did not match any documents. Bingo!!

First of all, I think it's really great that you're facing your addiction and trying to find new ways to deal with it. I just want to give my own opinions and a word of warning about using software to block access to porn: I think it's a temporary solution, and I ultimately don't think it will be any more likely to prevent a relapse. I think that if defeating a porn addiction was as easy as just installing a porn blocker on your computer, this forum would not exist. If a porn addict finds themselves in a situation where they are about to relapse, I think that sort of software serves as a barrier between them and porn, but it's a barrier that can be taken down nonetheless, whether that means uninstalling the blocker software, using an alternate internet connection, or even a different device to access porn.

Ultimately, I think the main effects of porn blocking software are in the mind. Installing software like that makes you feel committed to your recovery, which is a good thing. So, I'm not arguing that you shouldn't install porn blocking software. I'm just saying that porn blocking software isn't a magic pill that makes your addiction go away. It won't be able to stop you from relapsing if you find yourself in a vulnerable spot, and you still need to work very hard on your recovery after installing it. Coming to terms with a porn addiction requires you to look within yourself and to understand the reasons you watch porn in the first place. It requires you to replace PMO with healthier, more productive activities. It requires you to be compassionate towards yourself, and to forgive yourself for watching porn in the first place. None of these things are easy to do, but if you do them you will overcome your addiction and become free of porn (whether you have porn blocking software or not).

Anyway, that's just my two cents on the matter. I wish you the best of luck with your recovery, and thanks for sharing this information for all who are interested in porn blocking software.

I probably won't do this because I am a PMO addict and I could relapse any way, on my regular browser. I could temporarily disregard it and then end up with my regular browser all messed up from P---. So I think its actually safer to leave incognito on my computer. For example I also didn't throw away certain things because if I relapse I will just buy them again, wasting my money. There's no reason to put myself in that boat. Or I will find a more dangerous way to access my addiction. I've relapsed enough times and re bought all my stuff.

Right now the important thing is I'm not wanting to use PMO today. All my old stuff could be right in some box in the closet, but I don't have a need for it, just for today. So its like its not really there.

On the other hand when I quit weed it was important to throw out my weed and pipes. Because if I still had weed and pipes, I'd have used them at some point in my last 4-5 yrs of clean time. Sometimes the only thing that saved me from relapsing on weed was that I had no access.

No I haven't looked into that. I have a Macbook for my personal computer but I never got into using private browsing. On there I have an accountability software that sends my browsing history to an accountability partner which is effective also.

I appreciate your thoughts and advice! Yea, I definitely don't consider blocking software a cure all. Ultimately I want to have to strength to stay clean even if I'm on a device with no blocking or accountability.

I have so many blockers now that private browsing doesn’t even help me find anything provocative!

  10. I use incognito mode to go on here though!
