Oh God! Mr Snrub just look at me! I have porn addiction. This is so horrible. I try to manage my time better and I do everything I can do to avoid porn. But no. Oh God no. I always end up having POM cycle instead of doing successful NoFap. Please Mr Snrub, tell me I am porn addicted. Please. Can you stamp it to my penis? Yes. Then you can whip me and make me scream it. Yes, yes. Make me scream how miserable I am! Aaaah, Mr Snrub yes, give it to me. I am miserable porn addict. Yes, yes!

Dude. No. Fuck no. Stop jerking off to concept of addiction. You most certainly do not have addiction. You don’t have addiction withdraws. Most of those whiners who scream out load that porn is hugely underestimated addiction are not neuroscientist or don’t know jack shit about neuroscience of habits. Educate yourself and at least read Read Charles Duhigg’s The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business.

You don't have addiction. You have habit. You are trying to change your bad habit and doing so you are experiencing rewiring of your neural pathways. And that hurts. A lot. All those incredible urges, headaches and mood swings have nothing to do with addiction. Your brain is simply trying to make you fall back into your typical habits. Stop defining negative feelings as addiction. They are purely, utterly & totally positive phenomena. Every negative feeling or urge to edge or peak is just taking you closest and closer to form a new habit.

Your brain forms habits. They are essentially way for brain to autopilot ie use as small amount of brain power as possible. Now, bad thing is that your brain does not know what is good habit and what is bad habit. For brain, both are equally as strongly printed in your neurons. When you try to stop porn but fail it's not because of addiction. It's because your brain is trying to shift you back to your old habit. Why? Because changing habits requires massive, massive effort. It takes lots of effort and energy for your brain to rewire your neural pathways and so it tries to avoid it as much as possible.

Why is quitting porn so hard? Because of dopamine rushes? Dude. All habits are build upon dopamine rushes. Every and each habit you do is because of dopamine rushes. I don't see you calling all those other things addictions. Brushing your teeth every day before you go to sleep is not called addiction. It's called good habit. Jerking off to porn every day before going to sleep is called bad habit. POM is deep rooted habit. How long you have done POM? Imagine what else you have done approximately same amount. Let's say you have done POM about 10 years. What else you have 10 years? If you try to get rid of 10 years of doing certain habit it is going to be hard no matter what that habit is.

Scientist argue and disagree with definition and existence of porn addiction. Can you now understand why? Because they understand your brain better than you do. Now of course we can take endless path and start to talk about whatever any addictions exist at all but you know... What I'm just trying to hammer in is that stop saying your positive path of altering bad habit to better is 'addiction' or calling that process as ‘withdrawal symptoms’. Stop forcing yourself to step into victim mindset and take full responsibility.

You are not victim of addiction. You don’t grab your dick in middle of street and start to POM with smartphone because of addiction. You don’t middle of dates start to POM because of addiction. You don’t have addiction. You are not victim of addiction. Addiction is not dragging you. You are dragging it. Let it go. And it will go away. Let go of addiction and embrace habits. You are suppose to alter your bad habits to better ones instead of trying to cure non-existing addiction.

Porn is not a drug. I used to suck dick for coke. Now thats an addiction man. You ever suck some dick for porn?

I find your lack of intertextuality disturbing.

  3. Interesting way to look at it. Quite opening to some thoughts. I think that it was my case, I had an habit of talking to people on porn sites, I had the habit if receiving my orgasm, but I didn't did it in public or something. I appreciate your insight snrub.

    I believe it's an addiction.

Wikipedia: "Addiction is a state that is characterized by compulsive drug use or compulsive engagement in rewarding behavior, despite adverse consequences"

However, different types of behaviour and dependency have different consequences and as such I think that the terms "addiction" and "dependency" could almost be used in different contexts. For example

Sex / Porn
Addiction, but not a dependency - as in no major withdrawals, but still a powerful compulsion

Coffee / Caffeine
Dependency but not an addiction - getting over the compulsion is easy, but there are painful withdrawals

Heroin / Opiates
Dependency AND addiction ... the compulsion and the physical withdrawals are incredibly tough

Nobody sucked dick to get their morning coffee either (I don't think), but caffeine withdrawals are still very real for anyone who's been through them.

Meh. It's an addiction in the layman's sense, in the street definition of the word.
In the technical sense, the psych community hasn't yet arrived at a strong consensus regarding the definition of "addiction". There's still debate over whether sex "addiction" is possible. You could go with whatever the Neuro- groups are saying currently, but they're bullies.

On the other hand, [NSFW]Ted Haggard used to pay with drugs to get his dick sucked, and was only outed for it because he persisted in gay-bashing the men he found who would take the deal. ... ... Lost a lucrative ministry job over it. That's one hell of a habit, man.[/NSFW]

I'll accept your assertion that these whines of victimization by porn and a sick society are pathetic. But I'm offended by your insinuation that sucking dick is pathetic. I suck dick for the pure pleasure of it.
You need to remember that this place is for opening up and trying to process our fears doubts and challenges.

It's not an addiction? That's funny. I had no luck for fifteen years trying to get rid of this "non-addiction" that my body and mind would scream at me if I didn't maintain. I guess I just, you know, didn't want it badly enough, right?

    Your condescension has been noted.

I actually see his point I drink coffee every morning as do most people in America infact some have as many as 6 cups. I bet they couldn't go a month or even a day with out coffee / caffeine every morning to wake up and the won't be fully alert until they get it (and trust me they WILL find somewhere get it). Do they have an addiction as well? I know porn is something that I should quit and WANT to (that's why I'm here), hell I might feel even better If I quit drinking coffee too but I feel a change I notice when started I quitting watching porn and masturbating. Now I don't stutter as much and I feel more confident and social. Would I feel more of the same way If quit drinking coffee and consuming caffeine as well?? Maybe, But... I don't know because like most other Americans I can't quit drinking it I guess I'm addicted to that to. What about www.nofap.org I go here now instead of watching porn and when I would normally watch porn and it makes me feel good about my actions of going here instead of watching porn I am now here at nofap.com is this site an addiction as well?

I don't feel any more social than usual and i'm past my 3rd week. Haven't noticed a major difference in clear thinking. maybe some people's chemistry are better than other. I'd love to be more confident when approaching women, but it just doesn't ever happen (or rarely)

I was rather addressing his attitude. I have a serious issue with the way some people deliver their message. As the old saying goes - it's not what you're saying, but how you're saying it.

Chemically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually - however one might care to look at it, pornography and masturbation both have key markers that identify it as an addiction. It's almost impossible to "casually" delve into, infiltrates into and affects various parts of our lives, and is an absolute demon to get rid of. Just because a PMO addict is not, as the OP so graciously put, "sucking dick" in order to get their next fix (although that's not necessarily true, either), there's no honor in demeaning people that have these issues. Writing them off as whining little bitches and basically telling them to "get over it" is about the unsupportive, incosiderate, and damn well laziest thing you can do here.

Also, the OP seems to have a few screws loose, just judging from the semi-manic method of delivery he has. That isn't exactly encouraging.

Alright Snrub. We'll see how many times you reset with this attitude. Underestimate your enemy and you are doomed for defeat.

Sex is the most powerful human drive behind food, water, air and shelter. Of all the things in life that can be classed as desire, sex is by far the strongest. So really, we're all addicted to sex and orgasm, porn is just more compulsive in nature because of the ease of access and novelty.

People go to great lengths to get sex. They devote huge amounts of time and energy to find it. The extent to which people go for sex could really seem like compulsive addictive behavior to a objective observer.

  16. :D ! And that's true. If you are self-aware, self-conscious you will know, when you are addicted (or ain't) and I can speak for myself. Even though you have a point, snrub, you're in no way open for a discussion, which makes your thread very useless.

Also, take out the coffee machine in, let's say, Apple or Microsoft's office and you'll see them eating each other alive.

I don't see how this thread is at all helpful.

I want snrub to recommend what we *can* do to help ourselves, drawing in particular on his experiences with his cocaine addiction.

Somebody close this thread. This topic is not helpful to anyone here. Whether PMO it can be classified as an addiction or not is not ultimately up to us to decide. However whether it is an addiction or a habit does not change the fact that it's FUCKING HARD to stop.

One youtube video on the science of habit cannot prove or disprove anything snrub. You seem to be so caught up in your own opinion that you are failing to think rationally about the context of PMO. As Melancholy Weightlifter says, see how long you last if your most powerful tool to combat this is to "man up".

Well no, because no-one needs to suck dick for porn, since porn is free and readily available. Coke, as I'm sure you'll appreciate is not free or readily available.

I agree with your thoughts snrub (with the limitation of Fagdad, the problem here is the last sentence ^^).

Saying "it's hard to give up… it must be my addiction…" doesn't help people to take responsability and change habits.

Guys… there are a lot of habits you sure want to change. Learn the process, the method, and enjoy your life.

Sure - but snrub doesn't mention any process or method and he sure as heck doesn't seem particularly interested in enjoying his life.

If he was committed to nofap, then he would have probably come back since 27 September. But he hasn't.
