Read that book some years ago
As far as I can remember :
some nice material, variable quality but overall good reading.
The bottom line is : "man, you have the power to take control of your life"

There's a guy in my SAA fellowship who freaking loves that book, swears it was a life-changer for him. I read it, and I thought it was decent--but honestly I'd done a lot of reading about masculinity, inner game, etc.--and it just felt like a rehash of that stuff. To sum up the book: 'be yourself and stop caring about what other people think of you.'

I liked Models by Mark Manson. I also really loved this talk by Shae Matthews:

WARNING: 21 Studios, the conference where Shae gave this talk, is essentially a conference for guys who suck at picking up women and want to get better at it. The speakers are typically pick-up artist "gurus" with all sorts of tips and tricks to "open" women. Basically, it's the kind of crap I despise, and all it does is teach men ways to not be themselves.

I love Shae's talk because it's about a man's inner confidence, and how to build that up. So enjoy the talk, but if you start clicking on 21 Studio's related videos in the sidebar, you're just going to be filling your mind full of garbage.

Just be yourself and be happy. I am by nature nice, kind, genuine etc. I'm not going to change how I am to please others, be perceived different etc. When you are happy with yourself and who you are you will be truly happy inside. Those putting on an act and a character surely can't be happy and must feel like they are lying to themselves.

  9. No more mr nice guy is not a book about abandoning our good natured selves and becoming some utopian alpha male. It shows that so called nice guys are really not that nice after all. Nice guys have underlying traits (developed in early childhood) that have been controlling them unconsciously and thereby becoming an impediment in experiencing life to the full. It may also help one to understand the underlying reason as to why one is addicted to porn and try to address that reason and start coming to terms with this ultra compulsive behaviour.
It is an excellent read especially when read with an open mind and actually doing the exercises therein.

I think it's a nice book, a lot of things in it fit really well with me. It helped me to see that I was sometimes being very unreasonable with my girlfriend, and that I wasn't taking any responsibility for own life/feelings. I just thought the chapter about being a 'real man', or something like that, was a bit stupid.

There is already a very long thread on the book, multiple pages, with an in-depth discussion. Use the search function to find it.
