If one of my posts rubs you awkwardly I encourage you to quote it and call it crap you don't even have to tell me why.

Why am I quoted in this? :D

Other than this, no, nothing. :)

Edit: The email told me I was quoted, the alert on the board said only new messages. So ignore this post.

Oh boy I messed up. Oh boy I messed up, New York academia is not going to provide what I need after all. I will post references for my scientific self improvements.

You automatically watch a thread when you first post in it, you have to disable the feature if I'm not mistaken to manually watch a thread!

@staub Sorry that wasn't specific, you receive alerts for threads you are watching and will get alerted whenever there is a new post in it if you don't disable the alert or unwatch the thread.

Well crapcakes I'm going to have to take some course on Coursera. If that doesn't do the job something will be figured out, whatever it takes.

How's the old adage or motto or slogan or whatchamacallit go again? Mind over matter? I guess I will go with the cognitive version of this course first:

Philosophy and the Sciences: Introduction to the Philosophy of Cognitive Sciences

Oh gosh golly gee wiz there was another one let me go search for it.

    A video in the meantime.

Actually nevermind I will find another thread for those things.

Very little of this process is science based. Scientists don't even know! They can't agree on whether P addiction is a compulsive behaviour like substance use or a hypersexuality disorder (I would argue no on the latter but that's not scientific). Scientists can't agree on whether addiction is a disease or not.

Society likes disease models generally - then there's something wrong with you and you can try and find a cure. Life not going too well? Feel a bit down? Go get a pill. Feel lethargic? Go get a pill. But if it's a disease then it can be studied. You can do brain scans and show abnormal areas and say - yes, look, it must be a disease; even though that's could just be an expression of neuroplasticity modifying areas of the brain that are less used. In treating substance addictions, drugs are only generally used to manage the initial withdrawal and thereafter psychological therapies like twelve steps tend to be used. The majority of heroin addicts just stop spontaneously and never use again without any kind of treatment. Rats have been shown that they will use an addictive substance in a stressful environment but in a non stressful environment the same rats won't use it at all. So really, a disease model doesn't explain everything.

Most of this process is based on anecdote and loose scientific principles. We can't really make it out to be anymore than that.

    Well said my friend :)

I'm grateful I don't need any science or research or even verifiable data to tell me what's good for me in life. I've found my purpose and I have people to support that purpose what more do I need?

@diddykong Your words incited a dream fragment to manifest within my mind. The motto HEALTH IS WEALTH popped into my noggin while scanning over your post.

The course doesn't begin for another week. It's going to be dreamtime until then. I will be using this thread to aid myself in the course too, this is what I need for my own self improvement. You're free to talk alongside my studying.

I'm at the library and while there will be no religious discussion in this thread I just walked by a book on a shelf that I'm not going to discuss here. It's appropriate for reboot logs if I'm not mistaken. Anyways that is not at all the aim of this thread.

3 videos. Not open for discussion in this thread due to forum rules.

How ignorant is the title of this video (not a question I'm looking for an answer to):

Sam Harris has insight I'm not bashing him as a person.

Well brothers whichever way the wind blows or you decide to firmly go, happiness seems like a winning aim in life whichever way you go about finding it!

  19. It seems science keeps showing us how porn is one big lie. Of course the industry tries to counter the arguments with their own 2 cents. Personally I like to appreciate what is good for society at large and porn is certainly not so ya.
