If I don't masturbate, is it OK to watch porn?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Vendettana, Jul 12, 2019.

  1. Hi guys,

Long story short. I dug down deeep into porn. I got ED (and I still struggle with getting hard), that I *treated* with Cialys. Thanks to Jordan Peterson I decided to stop watching endless hours of porn and eventually stop masturbating.
I stopped in April. In May I married my wife and we had sex (I had ED problems, but as I said, I "treated" it). Two months after our wedding I had to travel and we are separated for a couple of months.
I stick to not masturbate for three weeks now.
It is harder than before the wedding, and sometimes I can't take my eyes of beautiful women in the street. It is really hard to deal with, though I still could not get hard 100% I think. Or I would come instantly.

The good thing is, that I am loosing interest for porn on the internet, but I still watch, just out of habit. I don't even get an erection doing it.
Does that count as a reset???

Also I did not ejaculate, but sometimes I have to play around with my penis. Also, I am getting so horny that I even start to like the idea of sticking things in my ass.

So, basically my question is, if I can resent (and get rid of ED) by acting like that?

For a lot of us, porn is actually a bigger problem than the masturbation. I think I enjoyed watching it more than the actual orgasm and i know that I'm not alone when i I say that. It will negatively impact your progress whether you get off or not. Stay strong.

  7. The problem I have when I watch porn is how I start thinking about women. My thoughts towards them turns negative and even violent. I can’t watch the softer stuff without ending up moving to the hardcore junk.

That’s the reason I’m working on staying away. I need to work on developing good proper healthy thoughts about women.

I think porn negatively impacts how we think and act around women.

I believe any contact with pornography is sick. It is watching prostitution. As simple as that. And boosting views, making some sick evil persons earn money on commercials. So it is supporting the existence of pornography. And it is harmful to mind no matter what you do to it. I am a heavy addict, so I cannot set any example but I do realize what this crap is.

Completely the wrong idea. As some people have alluded to, porn is the poison, not masturbation. If there was no porn, people wouldnt spend hours edging, no one would get ED from it as there is no supernormal stimulus and masturbation would be so underwhelming that seeking a partner is actually an incentive.

I noticed this first hand. I masturbated without porn, just to the sensation, and afterwards i felt fine (even good). I felt normal. When I would watch porn, even without masturbating, things would be different. My heart rate would go up, I would become some weird animal to this shit and after i turned it off i felt awful (from the dopamine drop). so it is clear that porn, not masturbation is the problem.

Why then do some people completely abstain?

The simple answer is this. the quickest way to get rid of a porn addiction is to abstain. Lots of people have neurologically paired porn and masturbation so trying to get rid of porn and still masturbating doesnt always work for some people It can create a chaser effect and leave them feeling underwhelmed with masturbation alone, so theyre more likely to seek porn. however, for others, masturbating without porn helps because it can reduce sexual tension and help you get over an urge.

So cut out porn completely and experiment if masturbating (without porn) helps you then do that, and if it makes it harder to resist porn, dont.

    good luck

  10. Wow, I never saw it like that. I remember reading some blogs about the healthy effects of masturbation. Some claimed that if you don't ejaculate, you get higher risk of prostata cancer. I felt reassured that I am doing something perfectly normal and important.
Then I read about how people were having sex everyday and I felt like would have to be as performant as they are. Also I thought that masturbating would kind of be a work-out towards higher libido. And now you're telling me something completely different.

But it's like you say, you wire in your brain that masturbation is linked to porn. First you have to watch soft to masturbate. Then it gets harder, then weird and perverted.
That sexual arousal is linked to porn. Then you have normal sex and sometimes think "This isn't the real thing, she's not making it right!"

  12. I will. I did not masturbate for three weeks. And I stopped watching porn yesterday. I still have my porn collection on the computer.
Maybe I am naive: to me the hard thing was not to masturbate, I think quitting porn will be easy after that.

Nice! But i would strongly advise u to delete your collection of porn, because that will always be a danger for relapse. And for what do you need it now anyway?

    Obviously and absolutely not.

It's like asking if you can get rid of alcohool addiction and liver problems while still drinking, you obviously can't.
