Hi, I've been there. I really wish you the best and hope the panic etc passes soon. I found meditation invaluable in dealing with the issues you describe. It allows you to stop fighting against the panic and just let it be. This is when I found it disappearing.

    Best of luck

Hi BigOne79, you might find this video useful. It's describing holistic approach to the addiction problem and all that comes with it (anxieties, depression, etc):

LEARNING TO LOVE YOURSELF (7 TIPS): -> if you don't learn to like yourself, you'll be miserable and may fall back into addiction

    1. watch your thoughts -> your thoughts will self-sabotage you. They'll tell you that you're a failure/useless/horrible person. Try to disregard them. They're not true.
    2. support -> you need to be mixing with like-minded positive people (online/in real life groups). Seek positivity
    3. forgive yourself -> feelings of guilt, regret… What's done is done, it's only one way you're moving now and that's forward. Mistakes you've made are part of your learning/growth. No one is perfect. You can't dwell on those otherwise it will sabotage you. We're all perfectly imperfect.
    4. self-care -> this takes three forms
    a) physical self-care (diet, exercise, getting out in the sunlight, grooming-> taking showers, neat bed...)
    b) emotional well-being (root of all addiction is pain somewhere. Maybe you'll need professional help to discover it and address it)
    c) spiritual well-being (learning to be alone, learning to pray/meditate, breathe properly)
    5. find your passion -> with passion will come life purpose
    6. stop comparing with others -> forget about what people think about you, because they don't think about you that often and it doesn't matter. You can't effect that, you can't control it. Stop looking at pictures, social media… and comparing yourself with other people. You're unique, you're you, perfectly imperfect
    7. gratitude -> look at what you do have, not what you don't have. Realize how lucky you are to have this second chance

You're always with your-self so you might well start enjoying the company
    1. YOU CAN'T BE LONELY IF YOU LIKE THE PERSON YOU'RE ALONE WITH
    2. MAKE PEACE WITH A MIRROR AND WATCH YOUR REFLECTION CHANGE

Thank you FENIX! I needed this for the past week. All of this is so true. I think now I am getting further into recovery and guilt/shame is coming out even more.

ON and OFF for about 20 years or so. The last six years I know for sure it got compulsive and I was almost every other day if not every day like once or twice.

I'll be almost eight months hard mode and have been going in and out of some anxiety for the last two months. Guess it will take a few more to really get this under control. Thank you for updating on your experience as it helps me gauge myself a lot. We are all different and heal differently as well.

Tried meditation a lot, even tried a 10 day retire with vipassana...but unfortunately i found out meditation just make me crazy and super anxious.
I left the vipassana course after day 1...

Can you take 2-3 weeks off work/school? What helped me most when I got crazy anxious to the point not being able to function, I pack my backpack and do 14 days hike on Camino Primitivo. 6-10h daily walks calm my mind better than any meditation or prayer.

Luckily i have a lot of free time, i've been living out of buying and selling small real estates in the last few years.
Maybe i'm stressed because i'm doing nothing most of time, i don't know...

If i would have a normal work, they would had probably fired me in the last year.

Great, maybe takes a few weeks off work and try hiking. I swore I'd do 9 days hike every 3 months after returning from Camino, but I never went and year after my mental life is all FU. I wish I had followed my own promise. I can't explain what happens while walking long distances, but it really helps to calm ones mind. No wonder pilgrimages were so popular through human history.

It seems to me that people are focused on what is at hand instead of thinking about anything else. They have to make that walk or hike and that is their goal. Nothing else really matters to them.

Important to understand, what you are feeling is normal fro anyone. You are not dying, and the world will not end.
But PMO is not a normal act. No more then being chased by a Bear is. And our brains are not wired to accept the signals we send it.

To look at this from a human point of view the more often you PMO is like telling your body you can't find a mater. You get close but that release from intimacy can not be substituted. There is something in our DNA that tells is mating is normal, and not to is harmful. Thats where the PMO lies are told, as people twist that to mean PMO'ing, is naturals when its not. No more then drinking alcohol, smoking, or doing drugs. And all those have side effects. So does PMO.
Anxiety is your bodies way of saying it does not like what situation you are placing it in. Confusion, and sleep issues all come from stress on the body and mind. Probably one of the worst new trends, PMO-Edge. Talk about pissing off your body, not only can it not mate, you wont even let it simulate it. Our bodies are insanely complex. They are designed to protect us at all cost. Anxiety is activating your flight or fight mode. Thats all there is. You bodies imbalance is screwing with it natural processes and that ads stress. But our body becomes used to that flood of hormones and adrenaline, and even can stop making both the way it should. Equaling these anxieties or body stresses.

So, if I am understanding you correctly this anxiety I am feeling from time to time is still withdrawing from PMO symptoms for years and years because the body, which I agree as you say, is so screwed up from not getting its actual kick of hormones like it has in the past. I mean stopping something like this cold turkey I can understand how it is driving some guys a bit loony only after 30-40 days. The anxiety I feel is my body not liking I have stopped PMO and trying to get back to the actual method of finding a mate for that act.

I have heard from psychologists, one in anxiety that I have seen, that sexual addiction does take minimum three years to correct itself. At almost eight months I am far from out of the woods yet but just getting that one year under my belt will make all the difference.

  16. Porn specifically is processed by the part of the brain that also processes stress and anxiety. The brain's master anxiety control center, - the amygdala - is literally packed with dopamine and adrenalin receptors. It's all about excitement, which needless to say porn is. The content you (have) watched will literally cross these parts of the brain and train and stimulate your stress response each time this habit is practiced. The entire porn industry thrives on shocking content and fear. Porn basically induces mental trauma. As someone who's had more panic attacks than I can count since quitting masturbation and porn cold turkey, I'm starting to really comprehend how this addiction can turn into a full blown anxiety disorder when the stimulus of choice is removed from one's life or when tolerance is completely reached after having jumped from fetish to fetish. These stress controlling parts of the brain will violently react to this abstinence as they have grown used to and even dependent on these stimuli. When something you don't need becomes a necessity, that's addiction.
You can totally wear out the nervous system simply by masturbating to porn. Absolutely no doubt about that. Reversing the entire mess is an entirely different story and can take years.
Diet seems to be one of the more crucial aspects of recovery. You really want to take care of your gut. Withdrawal can definitely trigger intolerances and immune responses which in turn are fuel on the anxiety fire. The biggest offenders are without a doubt sugar and gluten. Gluten-free sounds like a hype but there's a lot of truth to these claims. The proteins found in grains, called gliadin and glutenin, can tear open the lining of the gut and cause chronic inflammation through irritation of your immune response, partially in charge of stress hormones like cortisol. This in turn irritates the nervous system. 80 or 90% of your calming neurotransmitters is produced in your gut. There's more nerves going from the gut to the brain than the other way around. The packaging containing the grains farmers sow have labels saying they need to be stored away from live animals. No joke. Birds won't touch them even if you let them. I've seen first hand that these grains as they grow are treated with extremely toxic pesticides such as roundup. There are laws prohibiting the use of roundup by basically everyone else but farmers, who are still allowed to use it for some reason... Soils are pushed to their limits unlike ever before. People are fed very harmful toxins every day and porn is just one of them. Whether it's the gut breaking down these toxins or the mind, suffering is almost inevitable because of some extremely powerful industries shutting up governments with truckloads of tax money. It needs not be a substance to cause addiction you know, at the end of the day, a substance like alcohol, nicotine or heroin will affect the very same neurotransmitters involved in porn addiction. One could argue that porn is even worse since the mind is being primed to process toxins it's trained to release by itself, no foreign substances involved. I just cannot believe governments everywhere in charge of public health are not yet aware of this simple, logical science.
