Sudden relapse urges that come ouf of nowhere

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by seek_red, May 22, 2019.

  1. Help. I was on a pretty good ten day streak, and i have avoided triggers and stayed productive and kept my thoughts away from dangerous realms. However, as i went to sleep today, i just got a super huge boner, like those that you would get from PMO even though i had done nothing. I tried to ignore the urges, but its futile. I woke up in the middle of the night from the boner and the urges and i had to relapse.
Did this happen to any of you before? Like getting triggered even though there are no triggers? How do you guys push past these unwanted strong boners? So far for me, when the boner became strong enough, relapse became the eventual only option.

Youre a 17 year old lad, im going to let you into a little secret, youre going to get random boners at all hours of the day and night.

You didnt NEED to fap. if you got a hard on whilst on public transport would you have just whipped the wee fella out and started fapping on the bus? Of course not.

Try not to think this way. Resistance was not futile, relapse was not your only option. One trick that worked for me in the early months of this streak sounds trite, but I found the phrase "No, I do not do that anymore" really helped me (thanks @DayOne44). Sometimes I would feel my resolve snap and I would know I was going to open a browser and immerse myself in porn. But even though all was lost I could still remind myself "no, I don't do that anymore" and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. We do not need to be strong, just strong enough.

  4. I see. Is there any way to get rid of the bonera though, especially those super strong ones.

  5. Thanks! But often times, my urges do not go away after resistance. So eventually, it seems that I just cannot resist anymore.

Exactly, "seems". You can resist. The feeling that you cannot is incorrect and is giving you an excuse. Keep fighting. Try doing something different. Keep experimenting until you find the trick or technique that will get you through those moments.

Have you thought about trying an 'easy mode' reboot instead? It will probably take longer but may work better for you at your age.
