Brain Plasticity - Is it damaged permanently?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Depressed&Out, Dec 29, 2018.

  1. Your experience sounds like mine to a t. I haven’t felt true libido since I was 16-17 I’m now 25.

When I said two years I mean two years of consistent no pmo. Not relapsed in between, proper recovery. I half assed around for five years relapsing on streaks, nothing happened, was in a circle.

The only way to recover is no porn at all.

I have no either choice, if I give up, it may well mean suicide. And that's something I can't do to my parents.

It's so hard to keep going, but at least I have decent resilience considering I've been alone with my own troubles all of my life!

Dude i agree with what @Big Lebowski said! i was on three major streaks in 2018, once 65, 25 and 56 and i relapsed in between, during my first streak (65 days) i had a wet dream after years! the orgasm i experienced in my wet dream was so intense that made me watch porn in the following days and obviously after a week i relapsed and everything turned to shit again, in my second streak (25 days) once again in day 20-21 i got strong urges, very hard erections which made me watch porn again and yeah ruined everything again. even after that relapse, i started an edging session for 2 hours continuously which drained my entire sexual energy and after hours of watching porn in the following days my libido was gone. even during my third streak (56 days) nothing happened and the only reason i relapsed was because i felt totally miserable.
now is 2019 and i think we should quit porn once and for all. i'm 100% sure that these relapses in between just make us more miserable as we are now. if we think porn is bad (which definitely is) we should get rid of it for good no matter what happens.
i wish u, me and others like us luck on our difficult journey and may we never relapse again :emoji_pray::emoji_fingers_crossed:

    Thanks, man. You too!

How come you relapsed after that intense wet dream? Did you just feeling 'happy' after the experience of that WD or did you feel horny, or what?

  6. Does that mean no love-making as well? I feel bad for my girlfriend..I fear that if I make love with her too much I'll be stuck or go backwards

  7. No, by all means make love to your girlfriend. It’s not bad. Just don’t watch porn at all.

  8. I can understand how you feel here. For awhile I was considering suicide because of my PMO addiction and other issues but then I realized that suicide simply wasn’t an option. I decided I was going to fight to improve my situation no matter how long it takes.

Also, if I can make one suggestion I would advise you to change your avatar. I think having that just reinforces the situation you’re in. I’m not suggesting you pretend that everything is fine and that you’re not depressed but I think having a visual reminder of it doesn’t do you any good.

Many, many people have recovered from pied and othe P related issues. Some go super hard mode, no edging, no P subs, no social media, good diet and exercise. They recover quickest. (This is my aim for the next 90 days. I did ok last year but can improve!!) exercise helps cognitive function as does learning a language and reading. All help create new neurological pathways and should surely benefit a reboot. Even if they don’t benefit a reboot directly, be the best version of yourself.

Am I an expert? Absolutely not. I am optimistic about rebooting. There’s not many people who genuinely abstain from PMO and don’t feel benefits. Sometimes I think guys cheat themselves a little. Dating sites, social media and news feeds. All contain P subs/pics of scantily clad women etc edging is another issue. It raises dopamine levels and must be avoided also!!

Have faith in the process gentlemen!!!!!

Because for years i had never experienced such intense orgasm, that was like a turn on button and i completely lost my control. that wet dream made me realize that all these years i haven't experience true orgasms when i was masturbating, they were just a semen release with a mild sensation!! after that i'm not sure if i was excited, horny or high! but eventually watching hours of porn forced me to relapse, so i think wet dreams are triggers for some, especially people like me who didn't have one of them for years.
since 2007 i have failed thousands times, every time porn addiction beat me but i believe "every failure is a step to success", so i won't give up.

Hey Big Lebowski!!Hope your doing great on the journey ... Sorry to respond on a old post of hours but I am interested in the article or video where Gabe details it took fifteen months for natural libido to come back to him. I have same issue where I fapped young and never had a true libido to remember other than that. I’m on seven months hard mode but slipped and looked at images a few times. Hard mode since the beginning and it was my only choice so I hope on three to six more months there is more improvement ..

    Yes, they're 'normal'.

Generally, doctors are not interested in treating my issue. Fuck them.

I think this only applies to actual drugs and substances, as these do quite more as only adding dopamine. PMO mainly adds dopamine, because brain can't do anything more if there's nothing affecting from outside (in this case, drugs). In fact, the thing that makes researches say that PMO is like drugs is that, the reason of pleasure, is because of dopamine, and both drugs and PMO activate it without you having to do actual efforts to reach that pleasure. But, drugs, as actual substances, can do (and do) quite more than only adding dopamine. They can also affect various vital organs and even slowly destroy some brain tissue, making it impossible to recover 100% from drugs.

In conclusion: that article applies for drugs only as substances, PMO can also give the effects as these substances (because of the big quantity of dopamine released without actual effort) but as it's """"natural""""(I mean, a thing done only by yourself without any other things from the outside of your actual body) you can recover after a time from abstaining (by getting a normal dopamine levels).

Sorry if what I wrote it's a little messy, but I wrote it fast and english is not my main language. :emoji_grimacing:

    free testosterone, total testosterone?
total testosterone should be at least 600, if it's 400 or below you need treatment

Your problem seems like mine or even worse. I remember year like 2015 when I was watching p I lost my brain functions. I have neve heard anyone had face a problem like that. And that’s feel like only your body without any taught . Completely a zombie. I have tried so many times nofap and failed si many times . But from First of 2020 to Now I'm clean but didn’t felt any change in my brain yet. I think my short and long time memory doesn’t work and everything seems like cloudy sky . I have seen newer technology also couldn’t check brain as well to diagnose those problems and don’t have treatment. Only people saying nofap and health life . But i have been doing all these things to be better. But still feel lost And alone in this universe
